I don't want a bigger Emergency Department.

I want a functioning social care system and a primary care service that can meet demand.

If we don't get that, the blockage in ED is going to get worse and more people are going to come to harm and die.

Starting to realise I just don't have the love for this kind of SoMe anymore. The little people in my phone have seen me through so much it feels weird to be leaving you all behind on here or the other place...but I've just lost the love 🤷‍♀️

Call the midwife is speaking for a generation of healthcare professionals tonight.

"I'm tired, worse than tired. What good do we do, what difference do we make?"

"They keep on coming, and we keep on going, because that is the pact we made."

I am apparently a nun in 1970s Poplar.

Wrong side of the stethoscope ATM and feeling immensely guilty for needing care when the system is under so much strain. Trying to remember...own oxygen mask first! Grateful to be home overnight...can't be leaving these two unattended around the treat jars clearly 😜

Speaking about heading in for another night shift, a nurse said:

"I'm dreading it cos it was the worst night ever last night. But I'm gonna try & get some sleep & go in positive. I'm just trying to help people"

We can't keep expecting this of NHS staff, we just can't.

A&E consultant, Prof Rob Galloway, addressed conference poignantly yesterday on patient safety, moral injury and so-called (and for too long now formally defined) 'Corridor Care':

"I don't provide 'care' in a corridor; I provide treatment. You can't provide proper care in a corridor."

I am absolutely broken in two by my shifts this weekend in ED. I have nothing left to give and yet the system and the public will forever tell us to "do more" and "do better". I have nothing left to give.

Got home from a crazy 12.5 hours in resus and popped my tree up.

I'm grateful for my health and my loved ones (but I also shed a few tears for loved ones much missed).

First Christmas without Grandad feels so very strange.

Need to catch up on the Assisted Dying stuff. Lots of strong opinions and emotions around. Not sure quite where I fall on the spectrum aside from that allowing patients a peaceful and pain free death has always been one of the greatest privileges of my nursing career.

These Treatment Escalation Plans should be considered and held in the cold light of day, in the comfort of a clinic…. not at 3am when you’re fumbling with the keys to death’s door.

The moral injury of working in ED is something else. I'm so glad I'm getting out...and yet so sad that's how my life as an ED nurse is ending. It's gonna be a loooong winter before I leave though!
