Rates of harassment are up, hate crimes are up, general incivility seems to be the norm these days. There's a general sense that "Things suck but we're powerless to do anything about it."

Not true, babes! Let me teach you community care!

Speed skating is wild
Stunning development here.

Italy’s Pietro Sighel is out after being handed a penalty for this move.

He was the skater who celebrated in Dandjinou’s face after winning gold in the mixed relay. He will not advance in the 1000m

About 9 years ago (during the time I was away for school), CBC produced an episode of Still Standing, a comedy series showcasing communities that seemed down and out with Jonny Harris as host and performing a stand-up routine, in Tumbler Ridge.

And where Canada's Maïa Schwinghammer started her skiing journey. She's up next folks looking for a medal.

I admit to being confused why Lady Gaga was there, though. I love her but don’t get the connection. (Ricky Martin makes sense and was cool)
That was super fun and joyful. And the set was incredible! Love the showcase of culture included in all the little vignettes

Currently reading Cyndi Lauper’s autobiography (2012) and just finished a section about how AIDS was a death sentence. Even later on, there were medications but it was a lot of medication, expensive and still a difficult life, if you were lucky enough to live that long
Just because good news is worth celebrating:

There is now a Prep medication that is an *every six month* injection.

HIV has, effectively, a vaccination.

I honestly think it’s irresponsible for media to be writing these neutral stories pushing people to try out UpScrolled when their moderation is so bad that I and others have easily run into CSAM on the platform. Wait until they’ve improved moderation, or warn people what they might be in for.
TikTok creators flock to UpScrolled app after U.S. takeover. Here's why | CBC News
Thousands of creators are deleting TikTok and flocking elsewhere just days after a change in ownership and mounting claims of widespread censorship and shadowbanning, or reduced reach, on the app.
