A piece of storytelling advice that I have heard: a story doesn’t need to be realistic, but it should be believable. I.e. if you create rules in your universe, follow them and don’t make a reader feel tricked.
Anyway, whoever wrote this season of the United States clearly doesn’t like that rule.

Due to recent acquisitions, the Call of Cthulhu collection needed to be split across two shelves. This resulted in a reshifting of many books.

Here's my hot take: The magic doesn't always need explaining. It can be weird. Magic can happen because it's right for the moment, for the story. It's magic, not science.
