One of my hottest takes is that I favor ideological affirmative action hires in polisci. I just think that means hiring both conservative AND Maoists political theorists, and letting them duke it out. Preferably across campus.

Finally watch The Librarians documentary on PBS. It's wonderful and sad in documenting the hate filled campaign against diversity in libraries.

CU is giving students access to AI.

"We write today to let you know that this spring a CU-specific version of ChatGPT EDU, tailored for each CU campus and our system office, will be available free of cost to every enrolled full-time and part-time student..."

We'll open up registration/call for papers later in the Spring, but #CUBoulder will be hosting @priec.bsky.social the first week of November. We're expanding to a day and half event to accommodate the large demand we got last year. Hope to see folks out in the mountains. 🎿 🏔️

How many grad admission slots do other #polisci departments have this cycle? Boulder has managed to keep a class of about 8~ students/year the last decade. I am curious about how other programs are adapting to the changing #psjminfo academic market.

Since we're in the middle of polisci grad admissions, let me take a moment to tell y'all why Boulder is a solid choice. First - the mountains. There aren't many research universities built right next to the Rockies, and the view never gets boring. Not to mention all the other amenities.

Given the reactions to this it seems necessary to state something quite obvious: Neither is this AI promotion nor is this a call for scientists to simple "use" whatever Claude coworker provides you with.

I wanted to know what Claude coworker is able to do. This is hours of work done in 2 minutes.
If you haven't done yet, please try Claude Coworker just to get an idea about its capabilities.

It took 2 minutes for it to read our paper, provide perfectly running R-code to justify a case selection across 14 countries using Vdem. Produced a 10 pager underlining our case selection.

I’ve always recommended to junior scholars to not write a book until after tenure because they don’t accumulate as many cites. My completely data-free advice appears to have empirical backing.
