I like things such as video games and music. I will post about those things. It will be fun.

I write about games here:

Hello! I'm Chris. My post splits here are probably 65/30/5 for videogames/music/other.

I play an even split of retro and modern games, lately with a lean towards JRPGs, platformers, and Metroidvanias. Nintendo and PS, mostly.

My musical tastes mostly fit neatly under the indie rock genre.
It's such a terrible place but it also works for connecting with people who can help you get a job.

Never open it unless you have to though.

Thanks to all who replied, a lot of good info!

He just wants to play a bunch of Mario games like 3D Land, Kart 7, and the like. Maybe a Pokemon.

My son (turning 10) wants a 3DS for his upcoming birthday. I never owned one.

Is there any reason to splurge for the New 3DS XL over the original 3DS? I assume XL is preferred and maybe I can find one of the cheaper variants, but if a normal 3DS is around $120 and an XL is $250, is that worth it?

This is tough! I'll go with:

Super Mario
Donkey Kong
Crash Bandicoot

But I'm not sure I'm happy about those choices! 🤣

Ratboys - "Singin' to an Empty Chair"

Super consistent band delivers again. A lot of massive guitars on this album. Southern-tinged indie rock.

I have no idea how a coffee sticker made it into that reply 🤣

22 is less than I would have guessed, fun set to complete!

Oooh, that's fun! That's a lot of games, isn't it??

What a fun era for the series!

I just played Star Wars Demolition a few weeks ago. The PS1 version, but it was a good time!

I've got the Seahawks 28-20 this evening.

It's both a prediction and a hope.

It's hard to trust either of these QBs.

Certainly feels like it might be a "you had to be there" type game.

This is not quite GTA Simpsons. There's very little point to getting out of your car except getting your next mission. Lots of racing, tailing, collecting, etc... and pretty much all of it happens in a vehicle.

Not sure I like it more than Road Rage, but it does add nice variety.
Time to see what all the fuss is about.

The Simpsons Hit & Run. #PS2 Is it...

GTA: Simpsons?
Road Rage plus some on-foot stuff?
Something else entirely???

Absolum enteres rarified air in my personal gaming canon as only the second roguelite I've seen through to the credits (Hades is the other).

It's a great side scrolling beat-em-up with roguelite twists. The combat is fantastic.

Absolum Review – Talon Trot Games
A 2D beat-em-up with roguelike aspects, Absolum pulls wonderfully from these genres to create a great experience.

Good to know, thanks. I'm level 27, maybe my party comp is just bad. I've got plenty of other yellow circles on the mask to explore so I'll come back later.

Yep, I just threw in the towel on him for now. Will do some more adventuring and try again later.

I sure hope the bosses don't scale to your level in this game...
February 8, 2026 at 12:16 AM
I spoke too soon, about to toss this game out of the window after my 20th attempt on Boss Troll. 🤣

The internet: he's susceptible to sleep

The game: 10% of the time it works every time...and only for one turn ☠️☠️☠️

Back to Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake for me after getting distracted by Absolum for a good while.

This continues to be a super comfy JRPG. Walkin' around talkin' to folks, finding stuff in barrels, clearing dungeons, not having to sweat many fights.

2 is my all time favorite, and easily in my top 10 games ever.

However, I will concede that 3 is likely the objectively best of the series. I have my issues with being able to chain pipe moves, but everything in 3 benefits from the generational leap.

I'm a simple man. I see a series which has its fans all these years later and a handful of PS2 titles going for $15 or less, I'm going to be interested.

I will pick whichever mainline entry I see first, sounds like any one will be a good time.

Cairn is a unique experience, one filled with a wide range of emotions and sensations. At times frustration and hopelessness, but above all struggle, resilience, and beauty.

Cairn will stay with me for a long time.

Never played a game in the series, is 2 a good entry point?
February 7, 2026 at 1:50 PM
Agreed! Definitely one I'll keep my eye on, curious to see how the reviews turn out. It's got a strong basic concept which is always a good start!
