I like things such as video games and music. I will post about those things. It will be fun.

I write about games here:

Hello! I'm Chris. My post splits here are probably 65/30/5 for videogames/music/other.

I play an even split of retro and modern games, lately with a lean towards JRPGs, platformers, and Metroidvanias. Nintendo and PS, mostly.

My musical tastes mostly fit neatly under the indie rock genre.
Excited to see what absolute insanity Silent Hill f has in store for me.

Roll credits on Tenchu Stealth Assassins #PS1

Absolutely filled to the brim with early 3D jank but I loved it regardless. Dropping you into small levels with no directions and letting you figure it, likely over a few runs, was a great time.

Luckily, I have two sequels on my shelf to try next!

My sell/trade/giveaway pile.

I keep about 1/3 of the games I play. Have to be all time favorites or something I can absolutely see myself spending more time with. Hit & Run was the only tough call here as I could see it being fun to revisit and bump up that completion %.

I enjoyed all of these.

Castlevania is back, and I couldn't be happier. And it's safe to say that this return will encourage some people to get into the series. But where do you should start? Well, that's what I want to help you with in this thread. Let's do it!

Finally starting Tenchu #PS1

Loving how crucial the draw distance is for the gameplay. A couple of levels in, it is fun. A lot of trial and error.

Sure, why not?

They have four albums that are peak for them, Boxer definitely included. Depending on the day of the week I might pick it over the other three.

It was the album that got me into them which will always mean something to me.
The National's best album. Agree or disagree?

I found myself at GameStop today feeling extra generous towards my kids because they've both been super sick all week. I asked for a copy of the new Mario Tennis game (the one they have a big sign for on their window), they looked it up and found they got one copy and it was a preorder.

What?

I've played a few hours of God of War Sons of Sparta.

It's a fairly by-the-books combat-focused Metroidvania. It is well made, fun, and brings back nice memories of the Greek era games.

Curious if they expand the platforming aspects at all and also how big the game is.
God of War Sons of Sparta impressions.

Definitely a Metroidvania. Controls are smooth. Early moveset is extremely limited; spear, block, roll, jump. It quickly expands, though. Soaking up green/red/yellow/blue orbs brings back memories.

Seems fun. It's a crowded genre, no clue if it will hold up

The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a fun game built around strong driving mechanics. It might not hold up as well as its diehard fans believe, but does any game?

Elite State of Play.

God of War shadow drop is wild. Makes me curious what it actually is though. I didn't love that art style. I'm absolutely down to try.

Roll credits on The Simpsons: Hit & Run #PS2

Remove yourself from any expectations you might have going in and this is pretty good. It's a bit repetitive but the driving is solid and exploring Springfield by vehicle and on foot is fun.

A classic? Not for me. A good time? Absolutely.

It can't be overstated how the pursuit of live service money has absolutely wrecked AAA development in the current console generation.

Companies will gladly sacrifice million$$ and hundreds of jobs hoping to be the one that lands.

Anyway, I'm going to sit down and fire up my PS2 now.
February 12, 2026 at 1:04 AM
I should be able to hit the credits on Simpsons Hit & Run next time I sit down to play it. I'll probably write something on it, but I'll say now that it has grown on me.

I don't think it lives up to the hype, but the driving is so good that the game works even if it's nothing truly special.

It's really tough to view this through the lens of "what does a 10yo actually need" and not "oh, for *only* an extra $100 I can get the best thing!"

The cost is already way higher than we usually get the kids for their birthday presents, so sticking to a non-New 3DS is probably the move.
My son (turning 10) wants a 3DS for his upcoming birthday. I never owned one.

Is there any reason to splurge for the New 3DS XL over the original 3DS? I assume XL is preferred and maybe I can find one of the cheaper variants, but if a normal 3DS is around $120 and an XL is $250, is that worth it?

I've got the Seahawks 28-20 this evening.

It's both a prediction and a hope.

It's hard to trust either of these QBs.

This is not quite GTA Simpsons. There's very little point to getting out of your car except getting your next mission. Lots of racing, tailing, collecting, etc... and pretty much all of it happens in a vehicle.

Not sure I like it more than Road Rage, but it does add nice variety.
Time to see what all the fuss is about.

The Simpsons Hit & Run. #PS2 Is it...

GTA: Simpsons?
Road Rage plus some on-foot stuff?
Something else entirely???

Absolum enteres rarified air in my personal gaming canon as only the second roguelite I've seen through to the credits (Hades is the other).

It's a great side scrolling beat-em-up with roguelite twists. The combat is fantastic.
