Former #ANU Vice-Chancellor, Genevieve Bell, will receive remuneration of more than half a million a year for the next five years - despite taking 12 months off.

For context, that's more than ANU hoped to 'save' annually by disestablishing the School of Music. 🫠 @nteunion.bsky.social

Good leadership examples in the higher education sector are few and far between, so I'm glad there is acknowledgement of what we all know already.

@nteunion.bsky.social members have been a powerful force in recent times, due in no small part to Dr Alison Barnes' inspired leadership. ✊
We all know how universities love their rankings... 😆

@nteunion.bsky.social members are very proud and appreciative of our National President's strong leadership in standing up for a better higher education sector. ✊
“Uni PR hacks hate them.” We’ll wear that as a badge of honour.

NTEU National President Dr Alison Barnes ranked #6 on the Herald Sun’s most influential in education – a huge acknowledgment of our union’s power. Be a “thorn in their side” and join us today: nteu.au/join

Solidarity with @nteunion.bsky.social members from #UniNewcastle who are taking their strike to Sydney.

While UoN bigwigs toast 60 yrs of UoN in Parliament, they're also cutting hundreds of jobs & starting Fair Work processes which would allow them to bypass negotiating with staff. #shame

Staff at #UniCanberra have been through a lot in recent years. 5 VCs in 14 months amid a governance crisis, 200+ job losses, workloads stretched to cover the losses.

@nteunion.bsky.social says staff deserve better than cuts to entitlements. UC staff should be valued, supported & respected.
Bargaining started at #UniCanberra last week, and @nteunion.bsky.social members spoke out about the need to address workloads & salaries. ✊

And that was before UC confirmed proposals to strip away rights to fixed-term and casual conversion to secure work... 👿

Still early days, and there were some constructive decisions, but disappointing that #UniCanberra has proposed removing key job security provisions in their Agreement. These conditions have been won by @nteunion.bsky.social members in previous rounds of bargaining, and have led to secure jobs.
Members of @nteunion.bsky.social have received an update on how yesterday's #UniCanberra Bargaining Meeting went.

Constructive discussions but concerns about removal of job security provisions.

Well done to all of the @nteunion.bsky.social Branch Committee members and newly endorsed Delegates at #UniCanberra on their work on this. 👏

We're about to start bargaining & workloads are a huge issue. There is a lot of concern that any UC Block Model would make them worse. 👎

Solidarity to @nteunion.bsky.social comrades at #ACU.

Striking is a last resort.

But when a millionaire VC gets a 5.8% pay rise, and then staff doing the front-line work to achieve ACU's mission get offered 2.5%, staff should be congratulated for standing up for themselves and their university. ✊

This damning report is really worth reading and the language of the authors’ criticism of uni executives and their failure to acknowledge the governance crisis is uncharacteristically strong.
The Expert Council on University Governance has delivered its recommendations – the depth of the crisis in our universities is clear. Thank you to every member who attended meetings, presented evidence, and stood up for better universities.
