Results are in: #ANU ranks 5th worst in terms of psychosocial risk among universities. #UniCanberra doesn't fare much better.

@nteunion.bsky.social endorses recommendations including continuing monitoring & more funding to stop job losses & excessive workloads.

Things are looking up at #UniCanberra.

UC staff have put in the hard work to turn the University around.

The least they deserve is not to have real wages go backwards.

Now is the time to decide whether you want decisions about workloads at #UniCanberra to be made WITH you, or FOR you.

Today is a National Day of Mourning for victims of the Bondi terrorist attack. NTEU mourns the lives lost and we stand with all those grieving this horrific act of violence.

While it appears the major parties may have struck some form of agreement, and it remains unclear whether amendments to address some issues will be possible, we appreciate the opportunity and @davidpocock.bsky.social's continuing commitment to community consultation.

This was a collegial discussion attended by members of different faith groups, advocacy groups, experts, stakeholders, and Ngunnawal community elders & representatives.

There was a clear consensus that many issues require further consultation.
January 19, 2026 at 11:00 PM
NTEU ACT Division Secretary Dr Lachlan Clohesy & ACT Division President Katie Ley attended.

@nteunion.bsky.social expressed concerns on retrospectivity, ambiguity, unintended consequences, and the lack of a 'good faith' defence which exists in other relevant sections of the Criminal Code.

Yesterday @nteunion.bsky.social participated in @davidpocock.bsky.social's Roundtable to discuss the Government's legislation on hate speech.

In the aftermath of Bondi, there was strong solidarity with the Jewish community and opposition to racism and discrimination, including antisemitism.

The Federal Government has an opportunity to start things off by making #ANU an exemplar of good governance. Unlike other universities governed under state or territory legislation, the ANU Act is at the Commonwealth level.

How we can make ANU a model for proper uni governance
The place to begin with reform is obvious.

With the Senate report on university governance due this week, @nteunion.bsky.social's @lachlanclohesy.bsky.social writes on the current state of university governance.

"It is now clear that university councils and their executives have been acting as a law unto themselves."
We still need a lot of sunlight under the rock of university governance
University councils can no longer be a law unto themselves.

The worst thing about the university governance crisis is that #ANU is not an outlier.

The best thing about the university governance crisis is that it's come to light because @nteunion.bsky.social members across the country have had enough & acted together. ✊

Former #ANU Vice-Chancellor, Genevieve Bell, will receive remuneration of more than half a million a year for the next five years - despite taking 12 months off.

For context, that's more than ANU hoped to 'save' annually by disestablishing the School of Music. 🫠 @nteunion.bsky.social
