While #ANU was sacking staff due to a "financial crisis", they were also investing in weapons manufacturers.

The rest of the world lamented the breakdown of a ceasefire in Gaza, but ANU saw an opportunity to make a quick buck. Unconscionable. @nteunion.bsky.social
ANU bought shares in Israeli weapons maker after pledging to stop controversial arms investments
Exclusive: University says Elbit Systems, whose drones have been used extensively in Gaza, not on any controversial weapons list when shares bought and sold this year

This damning report is really worth reading and the language of the authors’ criticism of uni executives and their failure to acknowledge the governance crisis is uncharacteristically strong.
The Expert Council on University Governance has delivered its recommendations – the depth of the crisis in our universities is clear. Thank you to every member who attended meetings, presented evidence, and stood up for better universities.

Today #UniCanberra disclosed $1.5m in underpayments to casual staff. @nteunion.bsky.social raised these issues in bargaining & simplified the Agreement. Despite that, staff were still underpaid.

The issues are historic, but UC governance still needs fixing.
