HAPPY ADVENT and an early MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus later this week. Maybe we can learn a lesson from Sunday School: Can Christians make room in our hearts for the love of Jesus like the animals made room for His birth in the stable?

Thank you Mitt Romney: “I believe in free enterprise, and I believe all Americans should be able to strive for financial success. But we have reached a point where any mix of solutions to our nation’s economic problems is going to involve the wealthiest Americans contributing more.”

"@ohdemspride.bsky.social Chair Kyle Herman similarly expressed hope that Brown would be able to focus on the issues. ‘Queer Ohioans share the concerns of all Ohioans who are suffering from the affordability crisis caused by Republican policies that cater to corrupt elites at our expense.’”

LGBTQ+ Ohio leaders noted the importance of this race, as the 2026 mid-term elections have the potential to swing the balance of power in Washington D.C. away from the Republican-controlled Congress.

Compelling analysis about how wealthy elites have rigged our government and economy to make life unaffordable for most Millennials and Gen Z. More and more young people are asking: What’s the point of life when the cost of living is too high to participate? Why work for crumbs?

Michael Green warns: “The anger you see on Twitter, the populism you see in the voting booth—it isn’t ‘vibes.’ It is the rational reaction of market participants who realize the game is rigged.” How will elites respond?

To be fair, the cost of participation in society has multiplied exponentially since the poverty line was arbitrarily defined as 3x the cost of food. Today’s poverty line doesn’t include housing, healthcare, transportation, childcare, etc.
The U.S. poverty line for a family of four is $32,150.

However, investor Michael W. Green argues it should be more than four times higher, a threshold that would classify most American households as living “in poverty” by his measure.
An investor called $140,000 the new poverty line. Experts disagreed but said he had a point.
Michael Green’s tally of the costs of raising a family in the U.S. today is going viral, even if some economists scoff at his math.

Families in Stow and across America are breathing a sigh of relief that the government won't return to discriminating against gay couples who finally received the same legal, financial, and medical protections as other couples thanks to Obergefell.
Obergefell is safe! Despite attempts by Republicans to dissolve the marriages of hundreds of thousands of couples, the Supreme Court has declined a case that sought to restore discriminations that violated Constitutional Due Process and Equal Protections.

Approximately 17% of Stow residents — 2,026 households — qualify for SNAP. The vast majority of SNAP recipients have jobs, but the inflating cost of food is hard to keep up with on top of everything else (housing, healthcare, etc). What kind of government lets people go hungry?
Fellow Stowians: If you know a neighbor in need of food, please advise them to call 211 for help accessing essential services. The City is working with many local volunteer-driven groups to help. Thank you to everyone giving time, talent, and treasure: StowOhio.org/612
