My latest newsletter came out this morning. In it, I cover new bills I’ve filed, what’s moving in Frankfort, how I approach tough votes, and my take on the national rhetoric heating up this week.

It’s wild how many people were outraged by 15 minutes of Puerto Rican music last night, yet show zero concern that a certain teen beauty pageant owner — President Donald Trump — is mentioned thousands of times in the Epstein files.

If that comparison makes you uncomfortable, ask yourself why.

I'll tell you what I did understand from the Bad Bunny halftime show:
"The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”
"Together we are America."

This week the House passed HB 103, which makes water fluoridation optional across KY.

Before voting NO, I spoke on the House Floor about testimony we received in the MAHA Task Force: making fluoride optional will mean more cavities in kids, higher Medicaid costs, and wider health disparities.

🚨This week:

Monday: Trump calls to take over elections.
Tuesday: He doubles down + Bannon says ICE should surround the polls in November
Yesterday: The White House refuses to deny ICE at polling sites.

This is not normal. Americans deserve elections without intimidation.

Yesterday in Agriculture, I voted NO on banning lab-grown meat.

This isn’t about what anyone eats, but freedom and fair markets. If a product is clearly labeled and fairly priced, Kentuckians should be able to choose it.

Bans like this don’t protect consumers, they just take options away.

Yesterday was my first VMAPP meeting as the Ranking Member. After leading the pledge, we heard legislation to help those living with PTSD and testimony regarding all the great work USA Cares is doing in the Commonwealth.

Thanks also to Alvin and the Chipmunks asking about this new role.

In October I testified before the PSC about protecting Kentuckians as we consider new data centers. Today I filed the Kentucky Ratepayer Protection Act to ensure rising utility costs and big projects don’t get pushed onto families.

In Natural Resources, we reviewed HB 398, letting utilities spread out power-plant retirement costs.

I pressed for safeguards so Kentuckians aren’t stuck with higher bills if retirements get delayed or canceled. My priority is protecting families from unnecessary rate hikes.

Yesterday was Suits and Sneakers Day at the Capitol to raise cancer awareness and show support for those fighting it.

More important than the shoes was meeting directly with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network to talk about how we can prevent, treat, and beat cancer here in Kentucky.

Last week we debated HB 312, allowing 18-20 year olds to carry concealed firearms with a permit.

I spoke with two of my interns about it, and they were clear: this makes them feel less safe, not more. We must listen to the young people who will actually live with these consequences.

At first glance, this budget appears to leave students, teachers, colleges, and state retirees behind. It also fails to backstop SNAP and Medicaid after cuts by Congress.

This is just the first draft, and I’ll keep pushing for a budget that invests in our people.

House Budget Deeply Slashes Funding for Many Services, Prioritizes More Tax Cuts - Kentucky Center for Economic Policy
As introduced, the House budget severely cuts or freezes many parts of the state budget and underfunds essential public services.

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, I’m sharing this photo of Andrea’s grandparents because the Holocaust isn’t distant history for our family. Her grandmother survived Auschwitz. Her grandfather survived a Nazi labor camp.

The next update newsletter goes out tomorrow morning, but you can get a first look right here. In addition to the usual updates, I explain why I voted NO on two bills last week.

Today, a VA ICU nurse was killed in broad daylight while legally carrying a concealed firearm. Yesterday, the KY House passed concealed carry for 18-year-olds in the name of “safety.” There’s no direct connection between these events, but the timing is impossible to ignore.

I feel numb and nauseous watching the videos coming out of Minneapolis from this morning.

Will we get through this? Can we get through this?

I honestly don’t know, but I think our only hope is holding to the wisdom on our state seal:

UNITED WE STAND. DIVIDED WE FALL.

The snow has officially begun in the 45th ❄️

I’ve got my very official measurement device in the yard and we’ll see how much we end up with.

Kentucky deserves Moore, just maybe not more snow 😁

Stay safe and warm, y’all.

As we still wait for the House version, I stand by my support for the Governor's investments - especially in public education - and my call to put people over politics.

Budgets reflect our values, and I'll keep fighting for one that works for everyday Kentuckians.

I'm not sure this line of work is meant for all us Moore boys 😂😂

With his school cancelled, Remy joined me in Frankfort today. While we were listening to agriculture legislation, he was more interested in his Minecraft book 😁

Glad to join leaders and community members from Jessamine County yesterday to talk about the transportation needs of our growing region.
