I tend to gravitate towards more obscure works, especially in the already niche space of anime fandom, so it's hilarious when the social media's algorithm tries to recommend stuff based on my interests, fails, and then defaults to general categories

Yes. This take is truly important. That’s why indie rock and hip hop, self published books, small press, small town art galleries, open mic, zines and Indy wrestling, web comics and creator owned business are so important.
The rich want us to have a world free of working class art. The only art they want is what they can sell top-down to the masses and art that they can invest in as a speculative market. When the working class creates art they are not generating profit for the capital class and they hate this

One thing I like about Frieren is how you can see the passage of time through the usage of spells. Obviously, there’s the “basic” offense and defense magic, but also how mages can just casually fly now, unlike 80 years prior when flight magic was impossible.

Seriously though, why do all the magic schools in stories focus on teaching all the students the same spells. I mean, yeah it’s important to understand the basics, but you also don’t usually see a spell research class or anything
