We haven't needed any more case studies on pedestrianisation since 1962.
One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

America's monstrous pickups and SUVs are staggeringly ridiculous, and dangerous. The rest of the world manages quite fine with smaller vehicles, including for trades and business. Go to a US supermarket parking lot and half of the parked vehicles are massive pickups carrying just one person. Stupid.
