MG and YA writer. Landscape, farm, and food photographer.
Critique groups have been the biggest thing to up my writing game. Here is a great article describing how to start one.
If you are feeling like the world is falling down, others are too. Any act of creation and community joy right now is resistance. Start small, meet your neighbors, make something beautiful together.
How to start (and keep) a writers group
If you are looking to start your own writers group, for whatever reason, these are my notes on what I would do if I had to start a new group today.

Autumn stretches amber
limbs through sky,
sparring sun for shine.

I love autumn walks down country lanes: the nip in the air, the crunch beneath my feet, the warmth of the glowing woods. #writingcommunity #naturephotography

I believe in bibliotherapy. Often a good fantasy transports me to an another world to see mine with new eyes. But today, this book of essays, Almost Anything by @annelamott.bsky.social from my aunt's book collection rescued me from despair. My departed aunt's lifeline became mine. #booksky

How to write: Stop not writing. Keep your butt in the chair. Write really bad small sections of the whole—passages, moments, episodes, memories—til you have an incredibly shitty 1st draft. Then take out the boring parts, the lies and pretensions. Then write a better 2nd draft.
