In a philosophical nutshell:

- The US legislates to benefit corporations.
- The EU legislates to benefit citizens.
- China legislates to benefit the state.

Each has benefits and drawbacks, but when we think of the EU as a tech laggard, I think this helps frame why.

This is huge news and underreported. @microsoft is following Trump's executive orders by blocking the emails of key staff at the IJC, this for investigating war crimes committed in Gaza.

This project is an international, EU-funded academic collaboration - and they need private investment partners now to validate scale this tech.

Europe, let's fucking go and make some homegrown, scalable innovation with positive impact 👊🏾
Researchers have set a new efficiency world record for converting sunlight into electricity using transparent solar cells.

The breakthrough is a huge boost for renewable energy, allowing entire skyscrapers to serve as power stations by transforming their windows into solar panels.

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

What we’re witnessing in America is what happens when disordered discourse captures a political party, then the state itself. The Republican Party was the first to fall - abandoning truth for conspiracy, ideology for grievance, and policy for performative outrage.

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn.

It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

Imagine if you read this as an Interpublic Group or Omnicom client, and then get a call from your account teams pushing you to spend on X.

I'd be fuming if my ad budgets were not being directed to grow my business, but instead to smoothen my agency's merger.
'Spend money on our platform or our boss will talk to his new best friend and slow down your merger'

This is what happens when capitalism meets a protection racket, I guess?

Strikes me that no one seems to be talking about the biggest cudgel Trump can use to force Ukraine to accept a deal; Starlink through Elon Musk.

Us in Europe can (and should) step up on the funding and security commitments, but I'm not sure we have an adequate replacement for Starlink

A reminder that this is exactly why DEI is important. It's not about unfairly disadvantaging white men, it's about treating minorities like equal humans who are not "filtered out" of healthcare and opportunity for life.

And the markets aren't radical-left-wing-DEI-lovers. This is money markets, and they think tariffs and trade wars are bad for business.
