If I Stop the World, Will I Melt with You?
Depending on how you look at it, this catchphrase from a 1980s pop song is decently accurate: you can actually melt the planet if you stop its turning

Not only the writer of The Trouble with Tribbles, but a Vermonter. If you have anything left this season, here's someone who could use a little help.

I scanned the list, hoping in vain for a chance to point and chortle, "Ha! I'm no old fogey. I never ___!" Hell, I should probably accept bonus points for not only having an AOL address, but working there... when the software was on 3.5" diskettes.
Perfect score of 20 for myself. What about YOU? #OldAsDirt

Outgoing packages go to the post office today: victory! I still need to write and mail cards... do I have cards somewhere? And the tree isn't up yet. Gifts to wrap. It's still a few weeks to Christmas, though, right?

Right?!?!

For the record, I will be swearing in on Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower after I’m elected.

There are loads of great Christmas gift ideas at shop.maryrose.org - all proceeds go towards the maintenance and conservation of the Mary Rose and the objects found on board!

My whirlwind of Thanksgiving baking starts spinning at speed today. I'm using recipes entirely from Vermont's own King Arthur Baking this year. First up: prepping www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/load... and baking a roll of www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/citr... that I've chilled.
Loaded Baked Potato Dinner Rolls
These loaded baked potato rolls are filled and topped with bacon, cheddar, and chives. Make some for your next holiday feast or sports viewing party.

Word of the day is ‘quockerwodger’ (19th century): a puppet politician whose strings are pulled entirely by someone else.

When I see a "21st century _____" category come up in trivia, I cringe, thinking that I haven't really followed pop music or new books lately.

Somehow, it's always a shock that it's been the 21st century for 25 years.

Nothing within 120 miles. Looks like the "big screen" will be our TV in December, but I'm really looking forward to it nonetheless!

We were out of town for the final, gave away our tickets, and streamed the game. Hope we're here to share in the amazing energy next time! youtu.be/pnZBfqp82Pc?...

Clouds almost always thwart a promising aurora night here. We've stopped chasing the best views. And then, last night... this was the view from our dining room window in Burlington, VT.

It's Molly's Gotcha Day - one year since this little dog came into our lives. She dances for her dinner, naps more than 20 hours a day, and is my constant shadow. So glad to have her in the family.

Couldn't they be a little less obvious about pandering to oligarchs, dictators, and billionaire techbabies? I'm still hyped about having nearly-local World Cup matches next year, but soothe my hypocrisy with some discretion, you FIFA fucks. (jk, it's bullshit whether blatant or hidden)
To be awarded by Infantino in Washington, DC … 🤔 🙄

Today is my weekly volunteer gig as a reading mentor for an 8-year-old boy. He's a ball of energy, and we'll sit on the floor and talk about K-pop Demon Hunters, Roblox, Minecraft, Pokémon, his best friend, favorite foods, and cute cats. Maybe we'll even get in some reading!

Me, reviewing progress on a manuscript: Hey, this isn't bad. I want to get back to work on it.

Me, an hour later: Gotta run to the stores. Portion and freeze things. Send a birthday card. Walk the dog. Arrange appointments for dog. Oh! I'll bake a cake, too.

Also me: I can't find focus time.
