If you’re in FL, January is one of our favorite months to garden. Cooler temps mean less stress, and the greens absolutely thrive.
Here’s a quick planting guide for what you can grow right now.

Anybody working with insurance companies to get better building codes, etc, for resilience/adaptation to climate change?

Not sure if this is the first, but why aren't all neighborhoods near wild area/wildfire interface built to withstand wildfire?

Good to see this happening. www.goodnewsnetwork.org/california-d...

This cute little guy is a Rotund-Resin Bee, a solitary native bee. This one is on our chaste tree; I've also seen them on our catnip (beloved by many native pollinators).
I love seeing them fly around, flashing their colors and their pollen - stored on their belly. Magical little fairy dust bees.

A solution to this growing concern.

This message cannot be repeated enough. People are making fortunes on keeping us mad at each other by spreading rumors.
If Project Drawdown could set one resolution for the world in 2026, it would be a reestablishment of our relationship with truth, and through it, our shared humanity.

Please help keep this essential world class government service that helps farmers and so many other Americans intact; write your Congressperson. Super easy and fast.
If you are in the US and you would like to send a message to your elected representative about the proposed dissolution of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, @agu.org makes it easy with a template here: agu.quorum.us/campaign/151... #AGU25
Save NCAR from being dismantled today!
The Trump Administration has vowed to dissolve the center that provides critical extreme weather and climate data for our nation.

#Planttrees always, but also make every tree count. Biodiverse tree islands, native pioneer species, succession management (supporting ecosystems as they mature) and other nature based techniques increase benefits and survival rates!

Stacking functions is a key principle of permaculture. When we design systems to produce more than one function, especially when working with nature to do so, this can multiply the yield of the system beyond expectation.

This is common sense but also proven by number crunching.

Mangroves have massive benefits to humans by reducing storm surge, supporting sealife and capturing carbon. Nice poster summing up benefits.

Interesting resource. I like that solutions include other benefits like ecological or benefits to people. Looking forward to seeing it expand.

Add silvoculture, paddock grazing and grazing animals can help rebuild soil in overgrazed or degraded areas for reforestation efforts
Brazil has launched its first deforestation-free beef label, Beef-on-Track. With four tiers, it aims to boost transparency in meat supply chains and could help meet EUDR rules — though industry uptake is still limited.
In Brazil, a new label gives more visibility to deforestation-free beef
Amid growing pressure for beef supply chains to be deforestation-free, a new certification system in Brazil will allow meatpackers, importers and retailers to guarantee that the meat cuts they sell…

Love these circular, multifunction solutions. Depending on what's in them, filters might make a fantastic fertilizer/soil builder.

Important and true. Most people do not want to trash out our home.
A huge 89% majority of global people [56% even in the United States] want stronger action to fight the #ClimateCrisis, but mistakenly believe they’re in a minority.

People want action. Smart cities are taking action. Nations should support city action.

Activate climate’s ‘silent majority’ to supercharge action, experts say
Making concerned people aware their views are far from alone could unlock the change so urgently needed

Trees add so much to quality of life. Plant them everywhere that they like to grow. I'm currently designing a one acre wood with climate adaptation in mind.
Trees help create healthy neighborhoods by removing pollution from the air, reducing stormwater runoff, reducing heat island impacts, providing wildlife habitat, and promoting mental and physical health by encouraging people to get out and walk in their neighborhoods.
Cities like Paris are showing that urban greening thru street & place transformation is just COMMON SENSE, for cooling cities that are getting hotter due to the #ClimateCrisis, and for reducing emissions, cleaning the air, and improving quality-of-life!

Would so like to see more of this in US cities.
“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.”

This is more than true of me. I tend to walk miles more each day when I'm in a walkable city than I do when I'm in a car-centric city. I will walk places I don't even need to go just because I can.
"Moving from a less walkable (25th percentile) city to a more walkable city (75th percentile) increased walking by 1,100 daily steps, on average. These changes hold across different genders, ages and body mass index values, and are sustained over 3 months."

days like today are a great reminder that portland should be

a) planting as many shade-giving, low water trees as possible
b) setting annual targets for depaving asphalt
c) expediting getting heat pumps into homes, especially for seniors/others vulnerable
d) not spending billions to widen a freeway
