I think of Independence National Park as my back yard. No use shouting at all these "kids" to get off my lawn! Lots more sauntering down from City Hall, some like me stopping off at Reading Terminal for lunch--the Mummers Parade approach of walk a few blocks, grab a bite/beer, rinse/repeat ...

No Kings, 18 Oct 2025 -- The crowd has begun flowing around City Hall, down to Independence Hall, back towards home. The signs are plentiful but not as playful this time. More serious, still peaceful, not completely gray, and a case study on Brownian motion.

My Fourth of July Along The Delaware
This year's Fourth of July feels more like a funeral than a celebration. Still, fireworks and fried chicken along the Delaware River offered a brief respite from watching the American Experiment fail. I wasn't planning on doing anything for the 4th, but on a whim I rushed down Elfreth's Alley to see what was happening along the river; people had gathered at the end of Race Street Pier Park, enjoying the weather and the water, and the fireworks were already in progress when I got there.

So resign and let Governor Shapiro appoint somebody who can and will do the job right now.

Regarding Senator McCormick's YouTube video about defunding PBS and NPR: Thank you, Senator, but your proposal isn’t about “bias”—it’s about silencing viewpoints you don’t share. • Independent polls show that most Americans support public funding for NPR and PBS. • As non-profits, they correct errors, avoid infotainment, and consistently rank among the country’s most trusted news sources. • Beyond news, they provide vital educational and cultural programming to communities that lack other resources. Defunding PBS and NPR for political reasons would deprive millions—especially children, rural residents, and low-income families—of a reliable, noncommercial service. I urge you to reconsider.

Hard to see how many people are here from the ground. A cheer started towards the art museum and passed like a wave back through the crowd. No idea why, maybe people are starting to march. Only 26 minutes late!

Two L comments. The conductor told everybody to be safe when we got 13th St. which made me a little verklempt. But a guy was open carrying a Sizzli in a packed car. So things would have gotten real ugly real fast if we got stuck. I stayed strategically close to the Sizzli of course.

Heading to No Kings protest. Didn't plan on being late, but it's Philly, and I am far from alone on being late to the parade on the L. Not planning to be arrested today. Or disappeared. Or shot. But we'll see!

Senator McCormick, Senator Fetterman, Representative Boyle: Is it enough to have a wannabe tin-pot dictator’s birthday parade with tanks and “historical costumes” waste fifty million taxpayer dollars after reckless, negligent cuts to vital services regular people--including servicemembers, veterans, and their families--depend upon? Is it enough when masked "officers" snatch people off American streets and from American court houses like a third world secret police?
