I think of Independence National Park as my back yard. No use shouting at all these "kids" to get off my lawn! Lots more sauntering down from City Hall, some like me stopping off at Reading Terminal for lunch--the Mummers Parade approach of walk a few blocks, grab a bite/beer, rinse/repeat ...

No Kings, 18 Oct 2025 -- The crowd has begun flowing around City Hall, down to Independence Hall, back towards home. The signs are plentiful but not as playful this time. More serious, still peaceful, not completely gray, and a case study on Brownian motion.

I'm heading home, and the city cleanup crew is moving in. Something's missing from this post-event parkway picture ... No Kings? No Trash!

The Parkway is lined with flags of the world--including Ukraine's. A sea of American flags protesting autocracy passes between them.

Lots of American flags, a few Pride and Ukraine flags. Lots of great signs. But THIS is what really speaks to me. T squares against tyranny!

Hard to see how many people are here from the ground. A cheer started towards the art museum and passed like a wave back through the crowd. No idea why, maybe people are starting to march. Only 26 minutes late!

Heading to No Kings protest. Didn't plan on being late, but it's Philly, and I am far from alone on being late to the parade on the L. Not planning to be arrested today. Or disappeared. Or shot. But we'll see!

I had a lovely chat with an attendee from Kansas, was the only science teacher IN HER SCHOOL! She had the same students from grades 9-12 covering everything. The attack on science and education will harm America for decades to come. But she's going to keep working, teaching, being amazing! #philly

I avoid untangling other people's tech messes except for special people and special compensation. Yesterday's payment was fresh-made bread, smoked pork chops, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and my favorite form of payment, chocolate:

Being in the office has been nice even if there isn't team critical mass for a whiteboard session. Oh how I miss those!

Considering a visit to NYC this weekend. It will be my first time since the pandemic--and my first 9/11 there since The 9/11. Mixed feeling about that, but I miss the city terribly. Anybody know if subways, transit, etc. are back to normal now after the flooding?

Google Hangouts users, be warned: The end is nigh! But. Go into Gmail/Settings/ChatAndMeet: there is an option for "Google Chat (early access)" which makes your Gmail sidebar a little different.

The entrance of @FreeLibrary main branch is more grand ballroom than Seattle's modern glass sculpture, but I love them both. Her to pick up a book since the Rittenhouse PCI branch is closed through March for accessibility renovations.

You need to see these giant concrete counterweights on a drawbridge next to Oracle Park to appreciate their heft. Not sure I ever want to drive under them!

Waiting for FOSS CON 2018 to begin. Lured out on a Saturday morning (such a thing DOES exist) by some Perl monger friends. — https://fosscon.us/
