TIL that modern Node not only supports `--env-file` / `--env-file-if-exists` but also a new method to programmatically load .env files.

It's been marked stable since Node v24 (current LTS), and I'm now on the journey of removing all the `dotenv` dependencies. 😅

It's ironic how so many don't like clowns, and are even terrified of them, yet half of the USA voted for one!

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Rubio is claiming that they did not need Congress permission because it was a law enforcement mission. The US is behaving as a global police state, extending its own arbitrary legal decisions to the whole world.

This is not a problem just for Venezuela.

Unbelievable how Trump behaves and has changed the USA. There is little difference to Russia. Shocking.

ship something shitty fast and fix it later culture just does not produce anything great

there's mountains of rationale as to why you should do that but i've never seen it work and it always turns the company into a painful place to work

nothing going on right now changes this

Facebook's Static Hermes is kind of incredible. It can compile JavaScript into C, which is then optimized into native machine code.

I just compiled the Less.js source code into a C library. Then I called it from Rust as a native Parcel plugin (no Node). Wild. 👨‍🔬

How to compile JavaScript to C with Static Hermes
Lately, I've been working on porting more of Parcel to Rust, and investigating ways to embed JS-based plugins. This post describes how I used Static Hermes to compile Less.js to a native C library tha...

We have come full circle from "of course we only use AI for prototypes" over "AI is amazing but obviously it needs experts checking on the output and extensive refacoring" to "let's just ship the slop".
Can't wait for the loosened up, non-perfect, but quickly shipped AI-enhanced updates to hit my banking and insurance services next year.

Im sure there will be no issues there at all.

Something that hasn't been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features.

We've been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I'm sure it'll ship with a less murderous name, but that's how seriously and absolutely we're taking this.

I keep being amused by some devs claiming that multi-region support for a service should be easy to add. Then turns out they're unaware of what active-active arch is.

Multi-region support is not all that complex from afar, but it gets complicated with the details.

We need to talk about Node.js in Kubernetes.

The platform meant to deliver elasticity is actually slowing Node.js down and making it more expensive to run.

Random NPM thoughts of the day:

1. The primary NPM registry should be obsoleted entirely ASAP
2. JSR does not do anywhere near as much as it should, and it's probably too late to fix.
3. A proper successor must only support "standard" JS, though temporarily accepting "strippable types" is ok rn
