Kirikiriroa Hamilton. East of the river, left of the centre. Environment. Treaty. Trans rights. Healthcare. Education. Tax wealth not work. All of it.
I used to split my votes. Then we got Jamie Strange in Ham East and well... it opened my eyes to the fact that that red tie might as well be a blue one.

Let's flip it like the UK. Labour's a lost cause, throw our weight in behind actually left-leaning parties instead of hoping nat-lite suddenly starts walking how they used to talk (last millennium).

The advice will have been "This is a terrible idea. It'll cost a ton of money, will harm the environment, and will worsen our energy independence prospects" and the nats will have gone "Brilliant, that's exactly what we're aiming for! SEND IT, BOIS!"

National have always had the attitude of "We won the last election so we have a mandate for whatever we can think of for 3 years."

Which is why we need to make sure they never win another election again.

Ah yes National's support for rough sleepers: "Hey mate, you can't do that here. Rich people can see you."

Worst is when you get a new toy, and the first thing you get to do is watch it run updates for half an hour, after forcing you to go online and make a microsoft account.

They really are making 2026 the year of linux on the desktop.

They can take this graph, add the one showing excess mortality worldwide 2020-2023, and say "We spent the same, but had the best result on the planet. And National still says human lives are worth less."

But they don't. 🤷

Oh I don't disagree with you at all. Just adding how misleading their chosen moniker is, on top of how they're being sanitised by the media.

TPU is a name not a description. Like 90 Mile Beach, or "Voices for Freedom".

Great thread about the lies we were told about #COVID , and that in many cases, we're still being told.

Why the lies? Simple; the economy can handle you dying. It can't handle you not working.

We're no longer people, we're just fragments of economy that need to be managed.
Not a single thing we were told about #COVID turned out to be correct. A long thread 🧵

They're not just picking solutions that won't benefit the population, they're intentionally picking the actively harmful options that increase climate impacts and cost of living, as well as sabotaging future resilience.

They're not merely incompetent, they're evil.

Let’s have a little bit of a chat about an economic concept known as the learning rate, and why it makes an LNG terminal a batshit insane idea 🧵

They've already said we value lives far too highly. Clearly a student who isn't even generating tax revenue yet doesn't measure up at all to several seconds of time saved every day by a busy executive driving their SUV/tank at 50 instead of 40.

Govt to pay up to $180m/year or $2.7b over 15 years to lease LNG re-gasification plant, paid for by $15-$30 'levy' per household per year. That $2.7b would build four Benmore Dams worth of electricity #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...
Why not spend $2.7b on solar & batteries instead?

Fascist Italy threw in with Hitler, and I can totally see Luxon following Trump into something exceedingly stupid.

Follow the money, and you end up in brian's garage?

"Well you see, if we assume LNG as always and forever staying at the lowest price it has been in the last 5 years, and then assume that solar panels will be at the highest price they've been in the last decade, then... wait it still doesn't add up. Lemme find some different numbers."

Laser focused on (increasing) the cost of living.

I'd say give the mic to Chlöe but NZ media won't do that.

I like the thought of people being fined for being too rich. "No. Bad. That's not conductive to a productive society.".

I can hear shame jones drooling from here.

You know why. Because then us plebs at the bottom of the food chain would benefit, not the corporates who are his mates and on whose boards of directors he expects to retire after his current hobby of destroying the country's future wraps up.
