Recently finished making: Stratagem Samurai
Orders-based tactics Samurai battle game

We've finally finished making Stratagem Samurai. It's our orders-based tactics game. It's an experiment with different unit movement.

It's our first game, so we've learned a lot making it.

We hope you enjoy it. Download it on here for free or pay what you want: kisaragi435.itch.io/stratagem-sa...

Hi, I hate doing self promo so I'll just say that this indie board game coverage channel that could is about to hit a milestone of sorts.

There is no skeet that can summarize who we are or what we do, but we do cool work and you should check us out. www.youtube.com/@NoPunIncluded

I think the biggest lesson I've learned from finally properly finishing making a game is proper scoping.

I've also had to try my hand on doing basic marketing and being outgoing on social medias.

The experience was a little disappointing, but it's just fueling me to want to keep going and trying.

I sometimes tell folks that Arcs is the game I'm most proud of as a piece of design. I usually don't get into the details because, as the length of the video indicates, it's a little tricky and some of the things I'm proudest of in the game are things I want players to sort out for themselves.

You guys have any good Game Dev / Game Design podcasts recommendations?

I just listened to this good ep from Game Data about the making of Solium Infernum. It's really good and really goes deep into how they modeled stuff in the simulation.

I dunno if it's just me, but a lot of my game ideas turn out to just be improving old games that I enjoyed.

I hear that's a good strategy to sell some games, but the issue is that the games I subconsciously try to improve upon aren't that popular to begin with.

Took a break from working on Stratagem Samurai to work on a prototype. I've had the concept for it for a while, but something clicked this week.

It's too early to share stuff about it yet but I figured out what was missing and turned it from a toy to a proper game.

Now, back to finishing Samurai.

Now with In-game tutorials!

Our game, Stratagem Samurai, is easy to play, but it does need a bit of explanation. So we've added a button that opens a tutorial to help out new players better.

Play it on here: kisaragi435.itch.io/stratagem-sa...

Now with Walls and Roads!

Done with the doodads for now. They don't affect the game in any way but it'll add some life to the maps.

Currently building an HG Gundam Vidar.

It's really quite good and looks so cool already that it doesn't really need painting. Just a bunch of easy color corrections.

There are now card limits for specific cards in deck selection.

One card turned was too OP, so we had to implement a new feature to tone it down to a max of three copies.

It feels blunt but it's the limit is giving me ideas for more cards already.

What non video game thing inspires you to do #gamedev?

For me, this battle scene from Ran (1985) made me fall in love with muskets and since then, I keep trying to squeeze them into my designs.

I finally played the boardgame Scythe last month, so I wanted to draw one of the mechs.

This is based on Polania's mech.

Self critic time: I've still not figured out how to make mechs isometric. But maybe giving myself more than 32x32 could help. And more colors too. Or fewer of both?
