We've finally finished making Stratagem Samurai. It's our orders-based tactics game. It's an experiment with different unit movement.

It's our first game, so we've learned a lot making it.

Now with Walls and Roads!

Done with the doodads for now. They don't affect the game in any way but it'll add some life to the maps.

There are now card limits for specific cards in deck selection.

One card turned was too OP, so we had to implement a new feature to tone it down to a max of three copies.

It feels blunt but it's the limit is giving me ideas for more cards already.

I finally played the boardgame Scythe last month, so I wanted to draw one of the mechs.

This is based on Polania's mech.

Self critic time: I've still not figured out how to make mechs isometric. But maybe giving myself more than 32x32 could help. And more colors too. Or fewer of both?

Our game is designed to be quick and snappy, but we had a friend do a blind playtest and he was basically stuck like this the whole time.

We definitely need better onboarding but at the same time maybe he's just an analysis paralysis kind of guy 🤔

The enemy army costs almost twice as much as your army. They have the strongest unit in the game and they are very aggressive. Is it even possible to beat them?

It's really important to match your command cards with the army you've brought.

There's no time for fancy maneuvers when the enemy is so balanced. So just load up on basic All Forward, and bonus movement Surprise Push cards, then rush their gunners.

Here's how you assemble your army.

It's quick and easy but the units you choose are half the battle so you might want to spend some time on it.

Setting up a nice flank attack to beat the enemy's advance cavalry.

Honestly, I'm just surprised that the strategy I came up with worked perfectly.

Flanking gunners help keep the spearmen alive against the stronger foot samurai.

The enemy army actually costs more points but clever tactics make them easy to deal with.
