Wish I could say I was shocked, but here's the Labour government constraining the right to peaceful protest again...

'You can protest but only according to our rules. The rules are: you're not allowed to use any of the tactics that make protest effective.'
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

❌Economical with the truth❌ Tories cut the funding at Central Gov, Labour have not reinstated it. Fanshawe Pool is facing closure because of the Conservatives actively deciding not to invest in the pool-twice!
Greens want to save Fanshawe pool, and Green-led Town Council have offered £120k for 2yrs.

Little is more satisfying to see than closed loop refill in action ♻️ This is what saving more than 1,500 plastic bottles from landfill looks like! Those drums have gone back to the manufacturer to be cleaned and reused 🌏 ✌🏼 #zerowaste

Every day the cruel two-child benefit cap pushes an additional 109 children into poverty.

Keeping it is a political choice.

Scrapping it would lift 300,000 kids out of poverty overnight.

The government needs to scrap the cap immediately & give every child the chance to thrive.

Both our lawmakers and our police need to take a good hard look at themselves and ask, why does this stuff tend only to come out when the abuser is dead?
Mohamed Al Fayed may have raped and abused more than 111 women, say police
Scale of the criminality would make Fayed, who died last year at the age of 94, one of Britain’s most prolific sex offenders

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

What are the arguments against public ownership?

Other than a select few losing the opportunity to make money from an essential utility at the expense of the public?
Last night only THREE peers in the House of Lords called for public ownership of England's water industry.

That was me, Jenny Jones & Natalie Bennett (Green Party) out of a membership of 827.

Public ownership officially opposed by Labour, Tories and LibDems.

Most people want to end the scandal.

Lou Haigh’s #Railways #Bill is a great start!

3 things that still need to happen:

1. Public ownership of the actual trains 🚊

2. Give passengers a real voice on transport boards 📢

3. Invest to reopen lines and bring down fares 📉

"BlackRock is highlighting Labour’s entire political project rests on the willingness of companies like BlackRock to plough private capital into the foundational components of our society (and extracting massive profits in the process)."

Really important piece. 👇🏼

I’m grateful to have had limited contact with adult social services before this week.

Unreal level of gatekeeping of support for a disabled and vulnerable young adult. This falls short of the bare minimum public service that should exist.

It doesn’t matter how you feel about the monarchy, spending this much public money when children are waking up and going to sleep hungry in this country is disgraceful.

Food banks and @trusselluk.bsky.social are doing important work and they are to be applauded.

The key takeaway from ‘millions of food parcels’ should not be congratulatory; we should be outraged by the total failure of our society that means people are reliant on food banks to survive.
🚨 Over 1.4 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in our community in just 6 months.

This is 69% higher than the same period 5 years ago. 📈

Over 500,000 of these food parcels were provided for children. More detail 🧵⤵️
