The problem, from our perspective, is that the evil billionaires have put themselves in a can’t-lose situation: either people buy into the lies they spin, or the new outlets they’re ruining will go out of business entirely. No news, period.

If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

A bill set for debate in Congress would allow the government to revoke U.S. passports based solely on political speech—speech sympathetic to countries or organizations the U.S. government doesn't like. (Like maybe the Democrats? It's a leap, but a very small one.) demstate.com/article/bill...

Reading at Seattle WorldCon
You can hear me read "Wishbone," from my new collection Patti 209, at 3 p.m. Saturday (August 16) in Room 428 of the Summit building at the Seattle Convention Center (WorldCon membership required). I could freak out about the fact that my reading is in competition with readings by two of the biggest names in science fiction (Brandon Sanderson and Mary Robinette Kowal) or I could breath a sigh of relief that I didn't get relegated to a late-afternoon reading on the final day of the convention or an early-morning reading on the opening weekday.

Want to delight an author whose work you enjoy? Post a three-sentence review of their book (or story) on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Goodreads. I had coffee this week with a fellow author and we noted that while we're both selling books, we're not getting the online reviews that are essential for building reputation and getting the next book (or story) published.

So...now it's OK for individuals at the VA to refuse to treat—or hire—unmarried women. Sadly, I remember this hiring discrimination from the 1970s. Unmarried women were considered "a distraction" for male bosses; and married women couldn't be hired because they'd "just get pregnant."

Isn't the damage already done? Most life sciences experiments require data collection, adjustments, etc., on a daily basis. Research in the process of being shut down cannot now be magically restored—and the foreign grad students doing much of the lab work have already fled the US.
BREAKING: A federal judge in Massachusetts (the Reagan-appointed William Young) has declared the Trump administration's cuts to NIH grants — ostensibly over Trump's EOs on gender ideology and DEI — are "illegal" and "void." He's ordering many grants restored.
