I don’t have a whole lot of advice for people younger than me but the earlier in life you stop worrying about what other people will think and just wholeheartedly enjoy the stuff you like the happier you’ll be
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

Well this had me tearing up. Sometimes the world is good.
I am so flabbergasted & tearful & grateful & JUST REALLY EMOTIONAL over everything that’s happened around this so-special pup since this saga started on…good god, how was it only Wednesday morning?

That it has meant as much to so many of you fills me up to the brim.

The thing about the relentless march of time is that you only get an ending (happy or otherwise) in fiction. Here in the real world no cause is ever lost forever even though we may not live to see it prevail. This is both hope and cautionary tale.
"This fucking sucks" and "all is lost" are two different sentences.

Don't say the second when you mean the first.

As a child I ate government cheese and free school lunches. I then went on to uni thanks largely to Pell grants.

I now (HAPPILY) pay taxes on an income that would not have been possible without that support.

Taking care of your citizens is good actually.
Just thinking: I am a double-boarded physician-scientist at @uclahealth.org, but I grew up in poverty. Gov't provided the welfare & foodstamps that aided my refugee family. Gov't grants subsidized my education.

I am only where I am today bc of the #America that was. And it makes me want to cry.

Okay, team! The food bank donations have blown past the $500 I have to match donations, but let's see if we can get volunteers to keep it going and match the ones I can't. I'll reply in a moment with the list of donations still waiting for matches, so please reply if you can match one of them!

Y’all, Spotify’s stock price sunk by 5% in 1 day. YOU did this by spreading the word to boycott them for running ICE ads.

These billionaires only speak one language—money—so let’s keep up the pressure. Tell everyone you know to cancel their Spotify subscriptions. Send them to BoycottSpotify.com.

If you donated to Platner via ActBlue, you can get a refund!

Contact them NOW and ask for your money back!
I donated to his campaign. I was pissed off when it was revealed he worked as a merc, and debating what to do when the tattoo & queerphobic posts came out.

I contacted ActBlue, asked for it to be returned, got an acknowledgement of the return a few hours later; 2 days later it was in my account.

On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer

Food banks need money if you’ve got it. For everything else, contact them and ask—some can take donated meat by hunters or eggs from backyard flocks, some can’t.
Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
