Unprecedented rain totals over the past 5 days. We’ve received numerous readings over A FOOT; most of those coming in from Butler County, in particular.

Today I learned my undergraduate student and I received an award from the Kentucky Academy of Science to fund his project idea. It's a small win, but right now I will celebrate any win.

Re: the NIH and F&A battle: Non-scientists likely don't understand indirect costs or why they matter. They likely DO know about St. Jude's, MD Anderson, Johns Hopkins, perhaps a research center near their area. Talk about how the sudden reduction in indirect costs would impact those institutions.

Why should the public care about the freeze on the NIH? Aside from the need for scientific pursuits to make our society better… -For every dollar we invest in NIH research, there is a $2.5 return. -Research dollars help fund universities that employ non-academics. (1/)
