Schumer is on record for having called the deployment of DHS "dangerous authoritarian overreach." How stupid does he have to be to believe he can roll that back simply by passing "reasonable" reforms? We need to primary these fools.
Our DHS reform demands are exceedingly reasonable.

We're asking ICE to do nothing more than follow the standards that the vast majority of law enforcement agencies already follow.

Republicans, the ball is in your court. The clock is ticking.

You have called the deployment of DHS "dangerous authoritarian overreach" - do you really believe you can roll that back simply by passing "reasonable" reforms?

This is a point I've made numerous times: a big reason why it matters which party is in power is not simply what new laws they will pass (or repeal), but whether or not *existing* laws get enforced.
Under Trump, EPA’s enforcement of environmental laws collapses, report finds
The Environmental Protection Agency has drastically pulled back on holding polluters accountable.

I really enjoyed the book, and I think you'd have to be a pretty incompetent filmmaker for it not to make a great film as well.

Earlier, I mentioned that I'm designing my own word processor.

I have started to keep a blog documenting the process. Over the months ahead, I'll be writing about learning to (vibe-)code, my vision for an academic word processor, and sharing some screenshots and short videos of how the app works.

The best story and so very Lebanese: A Lebanese car mechanic called up the who-is-who of the Lebanese political elite, pretended to be a Saudi Prince, and told them to vote a certain way. And they did: www.ft.com/content/7301...

Chotiner: It does, actually. So you're suggesting that because Demelza was eighty-two, she deserved a violent and prolonged death at the hands of her friends and neighbors.

Villager: I never said that. You’re twisting my words.
February 7, 2026 at 3:28 PM
Villager: Of course if you cherry-pick lines from an autopsy report it’s going to sound bad. “Blunt force trauma,” yeah, it’s scary, we sound like monsters. You’re being very misleading. That report is not a good representation of the facts. Does it mention that Demelza was eighty-two years old?

Chotiner: So last year, when Buell resident Demelza Delacroix died from—I’m going to quote the autopsy report here—from “blunt force trauma to the head and torso,” in your view that wasn’t murder?

As a result, many of the basic rights, such as the freedom of religion and speech, the right to due process and equal protection under the law apply to citizens and noncitizens.

Many parts of the Constitution use the term "people" or "person" rather than "citizen." Rodriguez said those laws apply to everyone physically on U.S. soil, whether or not they are a citizen.

Does the U.S. Constitution apply to undocumented immigrants?

"Yes, without question," said Cristina Rodriguez, a professor at Yale Law School. "Most of the provisions of the Constitution apply on the basis of personhood and jurisdiction in the United States."
What constitutional rights do undocumented immigrants have?
