Muppet forgot her digiscoping adapter when twitching so hand-held digiscoping was necessary. #ntdunwichheath #redtailedshrike lovely bird when it sat up on top. Bridge camera images were OK too. Saw the Bempton bird but this was local enough to get to and safe walking too

Gosh, what a mystery. Whatever could have happened to them?

No bodies, no tags, no prosecutions, no accountability, no deterrent. This will continue.

A mini break to North Wales last weekend. No joy on a known lek due to a father&son having hiked right across the centre just as I arrived! Got what I think is a female black grouse (wingbar?) on a recently cut/burned bit of moor. Goshawk nearby too. Opinions please. Bad pics!

This is also a problem in woodlands, where people often take their dogs to brush them, leaving the fur lying around for birds to collect. Along with poisoning ponds & streams with pet treatments, and disturbance/predation by dogs off leads.
Pet owners accidentally poisoning garden birds.
Our latest research finds pet flea treatments (fipronil and imidacloprid) in 100% of blue tit and great tit nests, with nestling mortality higher in the more contaminated nest. @SongBirdSBS @SussexUni @CannelleTassin

County tick at Broadstairs this evening. Good views - bad video - Scops Owl - apparently the first for Kent since 1971... before my twitching career started!

Just got the news of the Yellow Warbler at New Hythe before I left work. Thanks for getting news out so fast or I'd have been tied up till boxing day. Not best but most interesting back of camera shots. #ukbirding my no. 473 before I lose some the lumping next year

Day off to Dungeness and a Hume's in the Obs garden was lively. Sat still for a second long enough to get this though 😊 I'll take it!

Finally got to see an aurora. Not as great as some photos I've seen but this was North Kent just 51°N and with light pollution from offshore turbine farm and Essex! Previous attempts all wrong cloud cover or just not able to get out to clearer views 🌈🌌
