Last time around instead of sitting online all day grasping for tiny scraps of information I hiked into the desert until I lost my phone signal. Doing that again.

Between a deluge of R polls dropping to aggregators last week and prediction market manipulation, influencing horse race coverage has been much more coordinated this year.

Republicans have been able to ignore Mormons for decades

Now that they can't because of AZ, they're demonstrating they have no idea who we are.

I’ve been reading through the published fine print on data and methods of publicly available presidential polls this week. Oof. Even the “good” ones. Oof.

Staying agnostic on the stay/drop discourse, but I want to mention the below isn’t really true in a practical sense. Biden-Harris could move the whole wad to the DNC which would get the same favorable ad rates, and barriers to coordination are a joke now. prospect.org/power/2024-0...
Campaign Finance Laws Give Harris Big Boost in Biden Dropout Scenario
If Biden were to withdraw his candidacy, only Kamala Harris could seamlessly use funds raised by the Biden-Harris campaign committee.

I never even knew what “start up funds” were until someone told me at my postdoc. If I had gotten any job offers straight out of grad school I wouldn’t have known to ask for them.

2024 will be the last presidential campaign mostly waged on linear TV.

Anybody know where I can get estimates of issue ownership for the major parties in the U.S. from roughly 2004+?

It’s baffling to me that a party’s previous president decides 3 years in advance to run again, goes to Iowa and gets just barely over half of his own party folks to caucus for him, and everybody calls this a “dominant” performance.

It only took two weeks for my university to put out Official Merchandise of our mass shooting. T-shirts are only $26.99. Just in time for you last-minute Christmas shoppers!

Anybody have a suggested textbook or other materials for undergrad readings on lobbying? The campaign finance parts of my Money in U.S. Politics class are great; the lobbying parts currently suck.

I’d only offer a small refinement to this that House Republican DONORS used to mostly be bankers who were in Skull & Bones and now they’re all red assed hot tub salesmen.

I brilliantly build a bunch of cushion into my syllabi because the Formula 1 race will make it nearly impossible for me to get to work for half of November. I then torch a bunch of this cushion straight out of the gate by getting covid.

For my inaugural post I’m going to see if this place can do some work for me that I don’t want to do… Anybody know a handy source for 2016 Democratic Presidential Primary vote *by county*?
