I think constantly about the fact that light pollution means we're cut off from a very fundamental human experience that all people for all of time got to have up until about three generations ago--seeing the Milky Way almost every night. My heart wants crisp white linens and rugs and cream furniture. But my physical self owns a physical dog who is always absolutely filthy.
my heart wants a beautiful, neatly arranged home like the ones featured in architectural digest. but my spirit wants to adopt as many cats and dogs as my living space humanely allows. very difficult dilemma.

Folks, a pill to swallow: if current Democrats will cave to your healthcare, they will cave to your voting rights. If they will cave to you not getting paid for 40 days, they will cave to LGBTQ+ marriage. If they cave to stalling our airplanes, they will cave to destroying our National Parks.

please congratulate me, i got crickets when i sent this update and new address to my relatives 🙃 compared to all my cousins who are constantly popping out babies, a new farm just isn't that exciting i guess!
I can't believe I'm typing this, but Abby and I moved to our very own farm(!!). Just wanted to share some pics. Watch this space for probable farm animal content (sheep! goats!) in the medium-term future.

2025 has had some bright spots.
Some real pieces of shit have died in the past couple weeks. I can think of some folks who should get their affairs in order in case this is a trend.

I had a similar experience as the faculty advisor to a college newspaper. But it was that it was a private college and not subject to the same 1A protections as state schools. Ultimately I refused to do "prior restraint," as it's called because I knew no one else would take the job if I got fired.
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

I mentioned to a MAGA uncle that I'd walked all over Portland a few weeks ago & had a lovely time and he said, "Sure, but you can find a few nice places in LA too." To such said, "Yes! I've lived there. Lots of great areas. We don't need troops in LA either." These people are so scared of cities lol
Portland is ... right there. It's a real place. People live in it. People can go look at it. You could call someone there right now.
Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

I can't overstate how seriously I took the Hatch Act as a lil baby park ranger. Turned down tips. Turned down SNACKS ffs. Studiously shunned political speech. All to avoid the appearance of allowing folks to curry favor w/ a govt employee or politicizing the job.
