Delightful detail from the Roman “unswept floor” mosaic by Heraclitus, showing a mouse nibbling a walnut.
Superb use of darker tiles for subtle shadow effect!

Rosemary Remembrance Cake
The food we eat connects us so deeply to those we love and, perhaps, especially so when they are no longer with us. And this recipe is really in honour of my maternal grandmother, and not just because...

Across the quiet fields the poppies burn,
Their crimson glow where lost hearts turn;
Each bloom a name the wind recalls,
Whispered softly through autumn’s halls.
Beneath this sky, so still, so wide,
The past walks gently by our side.

We will remember them. In our churches, there are many reminders of tragic toll of the First World War.
On the altar at St Beuno's, Penmorfa in Gwynedd is a simple cross that was carved by Emile de Vynck, a refugee from Belgium, who luckily escaped the conflict on the Continent.

We've been down on the beach today picking up firework debris. It's odd, isn't it, that you can be fined £250 for dropping litter but somehow it's OK to launch rockets containing plastic casings into the sky.

You don't get this level of excitement in my local Tesco.
Shoppers at the Branson Walmart were stunned after a black bear wandered inside, picked up a can of bear spray, and accidentally sprayed it down an aisle before walking back out through the front doors. Several people were treated for coughing and irritation, and the bear was safely guided away.

Vasilisa Romanenko is an illustrator who focuses on naturalistic fantasy. Her work is inspired by nature, botany, folk art, and textile design. She often depicts botanical elements, birds and insects, seeing her art as a "window to a magical world”, and works primarily with acrylic paint on canvas.
