More rain is on the way for Newfoundland beginning this afternoon or this evening.

Rain spreads north and west through the night, and continues on Saturday as showers and flurries or light snow into Labrador.

3:53pm radar: Heavy rain over the southern Avalon, heading toward Metro & the northern Avalon just in time for the evening commute.

It'll be a dicey drive home for #nltraffic.

The Burin Peninsula & south coast also seeing periods of rain with heavier pockets.

The heaviest rain will be in the east. Central & west will see rain mix w/or chg to snow.

1. Another potent #NLwx system is set to move in Monday night or Tuesday for all of NL, departing on Wednesday.

Labrador will see snow or ice chg to rain for west, north & parts of central Monday night into Tue, followed by rain back to snow for central & coastal areas.

12:23pm radar: Rain, at times steady or heavy is underway for the southern half of the Avalon (south of the TCH), Burin Pen, south coast & Isthmus of Avalon.

Rain is moving nortward and will arrive on the northern Avalon, Clarenville & Bonavista early-mid afternoon.

Some data here subject to review, but list of currently available numbers shows numerous stations with peak gusts associated with the #NLwx weather bomb reaching well above hurricane force.

Impressive inbound low level velocities on Holyrood Doppler (~160 km/h).

Top measured gusts thru 7:30 pm NST:

172 km/h (Cape St. Mary's);
165 km/h (Trepassey);
162 km/h (Cape Race)*;
156 km/h (Cape Pine);
155 km/h (Sagona Island).

* suppressed data but looks realistic

1. Our intense system is set to impact #NLwx beginning tomorrow morning and will continue to do so until Wednesday night.

Heavy rain and high winds will occur for all of Nfld.

High terrain in western, central & the GNP will see snow.

Storm surge will be an issue for the coast.

Our next #NLwx maker will be a strong Fall storm that moves over the island Tuesday into Wednesday.

Rainfall is likely in the 30-50mm+ range for most of the island.

West & central may see wet snow mixed in w/rain on Wednesday

Wind gusts will be near or in excess of 100 km/h, esp for coastal areas

1. Latest EPS & GEFS for Hurricane #Melissa.

The general consensus keeps (what will be likely) post tropical storm Melissa just to the SE & east of the Avalon.

Melissa will also be interacting with a non-tropical low over Atlantic Canada.
