Wintry #NLwx has made a comeback in central parts of the island.

Measuring 20.5 cm of fresh snow through 5pm in #GanderWest since last night (water equivalent 22.5 mm). Started out rather fluffy but became dense as temperatures increased through the day.

Average snow depth down from 61 cm on Wednesday (before thaw) to just 28 cm today (now refrozen solid) in #GanderWest.

A 56.4°C spread between today’s coldest low & warmest high at official #NLwx sites (and 57.5°C unofficial):

A.M. -39.7°C at Wabush #YWK (coldest since Feb 1, 2024).

P.M. 16.7°C at Grates Cove (warmest since Oct 25, 2025).

Unofficial: -39.9°C (Moose Head Lake) to 17.6°C (Bay Roberts).

🌡️ Not great news for winter fans on the island.

A prolonged surge of mild #NLwx over the next couple of days (could even reach low teens in the east). Compounded by rain & strong winds, the snow pack will take a noticeable hit.

Also another mild spell possible early next week.

Another severe wind storm in the books!

Peak 165 km/h at Sagona Island makes for tie with Dec 5, 2025 and Apr 3, 2017 for all-time max.

Peak 141 km/h at St. John's #YYT highest since Sep 10, 2021.

Peak 115 km/h at Gander #YQX highest since Feb 10, 2017.

St. John’s #YYT gust 140 km/h (9:30 pm) surpasses the 137 km/h on Dec 15, 2025 for new highest since Hurricane Larry (145 km/h, Sep 10, 2021).

Other Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas peaks so far:

Sagona Island hit 165 km/h again today, so now a 3-way tie with Dec 5, 2025 and Apr 3, 2017 for highest all-time wind gust. #nlwx

Peak gust 165 km/h at Sagona Island this evening matches the same value from April 3, 2017, for the strongest on record at the site.

Freezing rain and -0.1°C at 8:15 am in #GanderWest after 8.2 cm of snow/ice pellets last night into this a.m. (13.2 mm water equiv, so quite dense).

Cleanup window is short: brief warmup this morning, then refreeze early this afternoon followed by intense winds & more snow. #nlwx

Kitchen sink for #NLwx tomorrow. Rapidly deepening low bombs ~26 mb in 12 hours.

Wind a key hazard with this one; severe gusts for some.

Blizzard-like conditions at times west & north Nfld and SE Labrador; elsewhere a nasty snow/ice/rain transition before flipping back to snow.

Wet #NLwx on the Avalon last night. Mainly rain, preceded by a period of freezing rain for some.

Not as much as areas in the east but still have to clean it up! Measuring 12.5 cm through 3:30 pm in #GanderWest. Quite fluffy with water equivalent just 7.6 mm (a 16 to 1 SLR).

Meanwhile, numbers on the NE Avalon ranging from 23 cm (#YYT and Downtown) to 38 cm (Paradise). #nlwx

38.0cm of snow as of 1:30pm in Paradise since the snow started late yesterday (a bit before 11pm). An additional 0.5cm in the past hour. 31.8mm of melted snow from my heated rain cone. Average snow to water ratio was 12:1. That’s it, time to clear it all away now. #NLwx

Wet and mild December 30th in northern Labrador; #Nain reporting 28 mm of rain today at the airport, with max temperature 2.8°C.

Falling a bit behind on the cleanups! Our little encore snowfall overnight into today totaled 10.4 cm in #GanderWest, bringing the tally since early Christmas morning to 81.7 cm.
