I really think we need way more directories and web rings online now, particularly for newsletters
By far the biggest draw by far is Substack's recommendation engine. Whether or not it really converts or is sticky or not, it feels like a substantial source of growth, and corresponds to others recommending me.

I've written about this elsewhere, but the longer you're on Substack the harder it is to move. I've been on Beehiiv for a year now and I'm really happy I made the switch. The "growth" Substack is showing you is absolutely not real and you will find that out very quick when you leave the network!
