Husband, father, occasional writer, lover of music, cheese and all things spooky.
Wrote two novels during lockdown. The Burnt Watcher and Visitation. A third escapes me.
Seven hours driving, five hours on site walking around Wilmington and Hove.
I am getting too old for this and my body is letting me know.

Net migration to the UK is at a 20 year low. And yet 67%of people believe that it is high and increasing. At what point will the media, and the BBC in particular, start telling the truth?

How times change. From finding Farage "offensive &racist" to kneeling before him, mouth open.
January 12, 2026 at 3:21 PM
Remember when Farage stated that we should "never trust a Tory"? How many ex-Tories are now in Reform? Should we trust them now?
January 12, 2026 at 1:51 PM
Immigration to the UK has dropped significantly. Tax receipts are tgerefore down. Taxes will have to rise to make up the shortfall.
Will someone explain this to Faragists?

Ideas whirring round my brain for a game based on the Hereford Mappa Mundi.

Isn't it odd that Musk's verion of free speech is "anything that doesn't affect my profit"?
January 10, 2026 at 3:45 PM
Oh look. Yet another Reform councillor suspended because he is racist.
I am losing count...

I have just received a copy of "Letters from a lost Uncle" by Mervyn Peake. It is illustrated on every page by Peake's glorious, wonderful, strange artwork. It is weird, funny and a thing of absolute joy.

Reform Uk Ltd before local elections: councils are wasteful and we will cut costs to the public.
Reform Uk Ltd after local elections: we will be putting up council tax and introducing parking charges.

There is no political way to smooth this for Starmer. He MUST condemn the US actions completely and unreservedly, otherwise he opens the door to China to do exactly the same to Taiwan.
January 3, 2026 at 5:42 PM
At what point do we decide to distance ourselves completely from the US? It is now a rogue state, completely untrustworthy and violent while its leader does everything possible to divert attention from his rape-filled past.

Introduce yourself as what almost killed you:

Hi. I'm Pulpit Rock just off Portland Bill. One windy night, Keith will climb me while wearing a greatcoat, marvelling at how wet he is getting from the spray. His coat will billow majestically, like a large ineffective parachute.
Keith is a twat!

We have been told by the arborist from our insurance company that we need to get rid of the Cockspur Hawthorn tree in our garden as it is contributing to subsidence.
We don't have a Hawthorn, we have a crab apple.
This does not fill me with confidence.

Not a bad place to live...

Started playing Colostle. Great fun. So far I have watched a Rook attempt to hide something from me and then I avoided a fight by dint of a piece of ceiling falling onto my potential opponent.

My least favourite night of the year begins. Crap TV and an enforced wait to midnight in order to keep the cat sane when the f*ckin' fireworks go off.
Hooray!

Of all the strange medieval things I have made...heads with feet, ice-skating birds of bad omen...this little beast is, by far, the strangest.

I used to think that the Telegraph was a usually-sensible newspaper. It ran a story this morning calling for Reform to have seats in the House of Lords.
The takeover by the Mail hasn't actually gone through yet!

Did a medieval recipe for Christmas lunch. Beef short ribs with wine and dried fruit. I am only cooking beef this way again. The flavours were amazing.

It always amazes me that the"patriotic" right-wing is so keen to use Richard I as their poster-boy. But then I remember getting a leaflet from the EDL with a Spitfire on it.
A Spitfire from a Polish squadron.

RIP Chris Rea. One of the best, most down to earth guitarists. Lovely bloke who avoided the limelight and survived pancreatic cancer in 2001.

It's Christmas-bread-making-day!

Nice to see the party that got control of Kent council pledging to cut waste and bring down council tax bills is raising council tax by the maximum amount and has voted to spend £150k on "advisors".

Just started playing with Ironsworn Starforged. Brilliant character generation. Really excited to see where it leads.
