Managing Partner @HansonBridgett | Chair, Bay Area Council | President, Medical Board of California | Leading with purpose in law, policy & public service
Proud to see California leading once again with the launch of the West Coast Health Alliance alongside Oregon and Washington. This partnership affirms California's commitment to science, transparency, and protecting public health.
California will not let a compromised federal agency endanger our people.

We are partnering with Oregon Governor @tinakotek.bsky.social and Washington @governorferguson.bsky.social to launch a new West Coast Health Alliance in the face of Donald Trump’s mass firing of CDC doctors and scientists.
Breaking News: Saying the CDC has become “a political tool,” California, Oregon and Washington announced plans to form an alliance that would coordinate vaccine recommendations for the three states.

Earlier this summer we rode the @amtrak.com California Zephyr 🚆 — 3 days across America with stunning views, family moments, and plenty of train magic. Ben (our certified rail fan & @bart.gov speedrunner) turned it into a fun video.

Mayor Libby Schaaf would have been an outstanding State Treasurer. I’m truly sorry to see her exit the race, and I’m grateful she'll continue driving impact across our state. www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...
Former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf ends bid for state treasurer after Kounalakis enters race
Former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf has ended her campaign to become state treasurer and endorsed Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis for the role. Schaaf had a fraction of the campaign funds of Kounalakis.

This photo shows my dad, aunt, and godfather in Budapest, 1956—in front of a Soviet tank.

Everything in my life has been possible because my dad—against the odds—escaped Hungary and made it to California in 1960.

Honored to serve as Chair of the Bay Area Council. This week’s Bay Area–Silicon Valley Summit brought together bold, visionary leaders ready to take on hard problems and reimagine what’s possible. Our region’s future is bright—if we stay committed and act with courage. The time is now. 🚀

In 1972, Congress created the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Alcatraz Island was included as part of the new National Park Service unit. The island opened to the public in the fall of 1973 and has become one of the most popular Park Service sites.

As President of the Medical Board of California, I was honored to testify in support of AB 408—our bill to create a Physician Health & Wellness Program. California is one of the few states without one, and that must change. Thanks to Asm. Marc Berman for championing this important legislation.

Today, Hanson Bridgett joins hundreds of law firms from across the country in support of Perkins Coie. Our decision was guided by a fundamental belief: standing up for the rule of law and protecting the independence of attorneys to advocate freely, without fear or favor, is the right thing to do.

There’s real power when people bring both anger and aspiration. Anger alone burns out. Aspiration alone drifts. But together? That energy builds—for a livable California, a fair economy, a future with dignity. @rokhanna.bsky.social gets it: we’re not here to tear things down. We’re here to build.
Ro Khanna: "Is it gonna be a tea party? No. Because the tea party wanted to basically destroy the government, tear down the government. Many Democrats, there's anger but there's also aspiration. We want to build things like Medicare for All, like a living wage ... "

If I could speak to the heads of big law firms, I would ask: Is the risk of losing some clients worth betraying your oath to the rule of law?

To everyone nodding but refusing to take a stand, I say: You are ignoring Martin Niemöller’s message. It is you that Martin Luther King Jr. was condemning.

There are forces that want us to believe government is the problem—that public service is inefficient or unworthy. But the truth is the opposite. Government, when done right, is a force for good, and the public servants who make it work are the best of the best. This piece is a must-read.
Musk/DOGE's dismissal of public servants as "low productivity" reveals ignorance about the vital work they do for love of country, not profit.

Public service isn't a weakness—it's America's strength.

CEQA is broken. It was meant to protect our environment, but it is constantly weaponized to block progress.
🚫 Housing? Blocked.
🚫 Public transit? Blocked.
🚫 A grocery store in SF? Blocked.

Opinion | This crazy bureaucratic law is strangling new development
This old state law lets anyone block a development for next to nothing. San Francisco NIMBYs use it to stop new grocery stores and housing.

In December 2024, big sister Kate took nine-year-old Ben on a BART speedrun, which was his Christmas wish. Ben planned the entire trip, which started at Milpitas and ended in Antioch. Their time was 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 40 seconds.

California is letting our coastal communities fall into the sea because we and our laws are that dedicated to ensuring no development, including and especially for much-needed housing. The Coastal Commission recently won a court case that gave them the power to let a 10plex fall into the ocean.
This is “we don’t know how” levels of learned helplessness brought on by CEQA and the Coastal Act

They did it! Rain and a couple of pit stops thwarted a speed record, but we are pretty sure that at ages 9 and 20 these are the youngest BART riders to complete a speedrun. Happy Holidays to all! Watch their amazing journey here: youtu.be/Xqoo3Y5on6k?...

California has a real problem if we won't build enough housing for everyone AND we refuse to protect the homes we already have.

Take a moment to read Rigel Robinson’s piece in @calmatters.org

“High rents, unaffordable home prices and a devastating homelessness crisis are not accidental — they are the result of decades of restrictive zoning and a refusal to adapt.”

✅ Think big & embrace bold leadership.
✅ Provide clarity & stability in uncertain times.
