And here’s her article, which I haven’t read yet, but am eager to.
I've covered race for two decades. I knew the 2nd Trump Admin would be dangerous for civil rights. Yet the collapse of the federal civil rights architecture and national will to address racial inequality and work on integration is stunning. Here's my latest. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/m...

This story beautifully conveys the pain and terror in our city right now as well as the many meaningful ways DC residents are standing up for our neighbors being targeted by ICE. #freedc

🚨Border Patrol arrested two firefighters who were actively fighting a wildfire at the time.

When the other members of the crew asked for a chance to say goodbye, a Border Patrol agent told the crew member “you need to get the f*ck out of here. I’m going to make you leave.”

This is Tuffy. He is the only example of taking up the whole sidewalk that is not only justifiable, but encouraged. 14/10 (IG: mypittuffy)

Excellent explainer from @maustermuhle.bsky.social and @51st.news about what the National Guard is doing in DC right now and the legal and political issues surrounding it. #freedc
What’s going on with the National Guard in D.C.?
Their presence so far has been limited, but with growing numbers that could change.

Civil Rights Attorneys, this is a great opportunity to work with an esteemed organization on urgent protection for unhoused people in DC in the wake of Trump's encampment clearings and aggressive law enforcement. #civilrights #dc #freedc

NEWS: @dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social is suing the Trump administration in federal court over a recent move to take day to day control of MPD. The lawsuit calls the move the “gravest threat to Home Rule that the District has ever faced.”

Quick legal opinion from DC’s AG calling Bondi’s EO illegal. The feds cannot take control of MPD, the Chief does not report to them, and they cannot invalidate MPD orders or direct MPD on enforcement of local laws.

Send some love to any homeless services workers and advocates you know in DC right now. They are all working so hard to prevent the forced displacement, arrest, or civil commitment of hundreds of people with very little time and too few resources to do it. #dc #homelessness #housing #streetoutreach

NEW — Video taken by a witness and shared with me tonight from DC’s Trinidad neighborhood shows FBI and Secret Service agents patrolling by foot and peering into cars with flashlights.

(Per witness, residents made fun of agents, saying they can't get women and that's why they were doing this lol)

It is outrageously unjust for renters to be deprived of water due to their landlord’s negligence.
A 🧵 on 🚰 : For years, @dcwater.bsky.social rarely shut off water at residential buildings for unpaid bills. Why? Because it would impact many tenants, and many buildings have a single water meter in the name of the owner. This spring, the policy changed.

Unless the police have a lot of intel about something nefarious being planned around this ICE protest in CoHi, which I highly doubt, the police presence looks extremely excessive.
June 10, 2025 at 10:19 PM
The ICE protesters in CoHi are a few dozen in number and totally peaceful, just standing and listening to speakers. With DC’s budget situation and the social safety net cuts happening here, I’m stunned to see this level of investment in police presence for this.
June 10, 2025 at 10:17 PM
It appears that there are more police than protesters for the anti-ICE protest in Columbia Heights. It is ridiculous. Multiple units up and down 14th street and on the side streets north and south of the plaza on top of a dozen or more in and around the plaza itself.

This isn't good, but it is a lot better than 1.1B in cuts. Still, the House needs to fix it.
#BreakingNews - DC Mayor Muriel Bowser - using an obscure budget law provision - intends to reduce a looming $1.1 billion cut imposed by Congress by legally increasing city spending 6% ($679 million) and cutting spending by $410 million. Details to council next few weeks.
