Half of KC's traffic deaths in the last two years happened on these 10 streets
Nearly 200 people died in Kansas City car crashes in 2022 and 2023. The numbers suggest speeds and intersections, particularly on Truman Road, pose the greatest danger.

The Downtown Neighborhood Association is fighting to do just this in Kansas City. We are using PIAC money to study the cost of conversion from 7-10th streets. It's very feasible and would end driver confusion and increase the safety on our streets for all users!
A simple way to improve American downtowns: Make one-way arterials bidirectional.

Doing so will improve safety, boost retail sales, and attract pedestrians.

Me, in Bloomberg 🧵
One-Way Streets Are the Wrong Way to Tame Downtown Traffic
In the 1950s, US traffic planners thought unidirectional arterials were better for moving cars through urban areas. Now many cities are having second thoughts.

In the last two days Cops have been a contributing factor in the death of someone on our highways.

On Yesterday MHP used a TVI maneuver that caused a crash that killed the driver on I-35

Yesterday a man was hit by a driver on I-70 as he fled from the cops who were chasing him for a hit & run.

Questions will be asked if the TVI was the proper maneuver or if stop strips should be been used, or another method.

Wornall Road has been under construction for years, and residents say it's caused them a fair share of headaches and flat tires. Now there's a "road diet" plan to shrink the corridor from four lanes to two, with a center turn lane and reduced speed limits.
Kansas City leaders hope a plan to give Wornall Road a much-needed facelift also makes the road safer
A city planner provided a concrete deadline for when the remodeling of the corridor notorious for construction and traffic will begin.

Office Product Alliance illegally parking in a bike lane forcing a rider into car traffic makes Oak less safe for all road users, especially for users riding in the left lane of this two way cycle track. Riders have to exit the lane directly into oncoming traffic. This is very unsafe.
Stop parking in the bike lane!

Most of the pedestrian fatalities this year has been people on the interstates in our city. We don't have an exact count at this time but we believe around 15 people have lost their lives by being hit while outside of cars on the Interstates. We are losing too many!
