Can you think of a single movie in which there is a video from the government denouncing its political opponents playing on a loop in public spaces in which that government was the good guy?
A new Noem video is being played at airports trashing Democrats.

Steely Dan releases “Aja” 48 years ago today — their most commercially successful album, which now sits in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

It’s fun to watch Jay Graydon replicate his guitar solo from “Peg”. 🎸

Common theme of people I've interviewed recently. At universities, in research centers, in diplomacy, in the legal system, dealing with refugees or immigrants:

The reality inside is much worse than you would think from the outside.

450 were napped by ICE at a Hyundai construction site in Georgia, where 3 workers had been killed.

Workers complained about the deaths to Trump's OSHA, which did nothing.

Instead, ICE showed up in an act viewed as retaliatory.

We are living in a post-truth society. Don't like the jobs numbers? Call them fake. Crime stats aren't alarming enough for you? Say someone's making them up. Basically, believe whatever you want to believe. We'll program AI to tell you that you're right anyway.

When The U.S. Government Tried To Replace Migrant Farmworkers With High Schoolers
In 1964, a program that brought migrant Mexican laborers to the U.S. ended. So the U.S. recruited American students to pick crops instead. When they saw their living conditions, strikes ensued.

The correct way to connect the authoritarian presence in LA and the Big Beautiful Bill is that the bill gives the government the resources to do this in dozens of cities at once. So if you don't like what's happening in LA, it's coming to your town if the bill passes.

Again, we're witnessing a near-total comprehensive failure of the leaders of our societal institutions to overcome basic collective action problems & speak out against the lawless authoritarianism. By the time everyone decides to speak up, it will be too late.
“.. Asked how much the stock market would need to decline for them to speak out collectively, 44% said it would have to fall 20%. Another 22% said stocks would have to fall 30% before they would take a stand.”
