📢 New paper alert! We explored N₂O fluxes in tropical cloud forests of Réunion Island. Soils emit negligible N₂O, and leaves & canopy soil have nirK and nosZ type denitrifiers.

☁️ The canopy #microbiome might help mitigate N₂O.

📢 New paper alert. We explored CH₄ fluxes in tropical cloud forests on Réunion Island.

🌱 Peat soils = CH₄ sinks
🌳 Tree stems = mild CH₄ sinks
🍃 Leaves = potential methanogen hotspots!
☁️ Canopy microbiomes matter more than we thought.

Fertilized soils are a major source of N₂O, a potent greenhouse gas. Our latest study by @lkuusemets.bsky.social shows how nitrogen (N) fertilization rates, manure amendments, and crop types influence N₂O emissions and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE).
