I got to be a guest recently on Robbie Dorman's podcast, Blood On The Typewriter. We had a great time talking about Where The Soul Goes, creativity and inspiration, and querying agents (ooh la la!). And, of course, the GRIND of writing, writing, writing! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj83...

This year I get to do something really cool. I get to read my debut picture book, The Fib, to kids at my hometown library in Eagle Rock, California. Just a few blocks away from home, this was the library where I checked out so many books for school projects and my own reading pleasure. Full circle.

This is a gorgeous story of transformation, of homecoming, and of choosing to be open about who you truly are to those who love you. Viscerally beautiful descriptions of body horror and delicious food are always a plus. 😍

I'm leaping back into Haunted Ecologies by @coreyfarrenkopf and published by JournalStone. Have you read any of his work? He's been published just about everywhere and his first short story collection is chock full of eerie ecological doom and gloom. If you're into eco-horror, put it on your TBR.

Starting this month: I'm going to finish four books that I started in 2025 and never got to finish. The fourth book is an on-sub manuscript from a friend that I've been rocketing through because it's so amazing!

What are you starting this month? What do you really want to read next? Tell me!

My 2025 end of the year reading wrap-up from @the.storygraph ! Lots of comics, manga, SFF, romantasy, and horror. Didn’t quite read as much as last year, but still had a great year in books. Here’s to 2026!

"What do you mean, I can't bring it?"
"You won't need it here," the Ferryman gravels. "It is useless in this realm."
"But I've had it all my life." They clutch it to their chest. The writhing, black thing squeals softly.
"I know," the Ferryman pities. "I know."

They are still dragging behind them the last essences of who they became because of the world's hardness. To keep going, they'd have to toss away what has kept them protected--and isolated--this whole time. It's scary and freeing. It floats away like smoke through an open window.

I'd drag with me the strains of the songs and the words of the poems that have sustained me through life, swirling around me like a sonic cloak. Because if I have treasure to offer, they would surely have more true weight than coins. I'd have to hope for a lyrical psychopomp.
