Another great article from Adam. “Too often, school leaders assume that all that’s required is to “say the thing” or “write the thing.” To have done an inset on the thing or to have written a policy about the thing and magically the thing is now in play.”

Some useful advice here by @teacherhead.bsky.social on how to get good paired talk. I think I'd add 'pair first then square' - i.e. let them go with paired conversation then double up to share. It's less intimidating to share with another pair THEN with whole class. teacherhead.com/2024/04/10/g...
Getting Pair Talk Right. It’s not that complicated but it’s more than ‘having a chat’. Three golden rules.
I’ve written several blogs about Think Pair Share in the past, because I think it’s such an important teaching routine for teachers to master: However, doing this well isn’t massi…

I'm going to set up a starter pack for 'People who are experts in Oracy (and not just jumping on a bandwagon)' shortly. I need to convince a couple of people over here from twitter too! Let me know if you are highly skilled in dialogic and exploratory talk and how.

In terms of oracy and classroom talk, a really important text to read is Robin Alexander’s seminal work ‘Towards Dialogic Teaching’, a text which will challenge many assumptions of science of learning folks and progressivists alike. 🧵 1/

I’m looking for a school that runs a free breakfast club so I can pick their brains. Can anyone help?

OPINION

In a worrying number of classrooms, there are students whose voices are never heard.

Why?

Because conversation is dominated by students calling out, or teachers choosing students with their hands up.
Fastest "oracy" improvement? Stop that.

In my opinion, policies and systems have minimal impact on outcomes. The biggest influences are socio-economic and the cohort. Until this is addressed there will always be huge differences in outcomes.
It is the elephant in the room. Any policy or strategy is nothing compared to this.

Or rebranding existing packages?

LOVING this from Ollie Lovell!

Is your procrastination is ACTIVE (small positive effect) or PASSIVE (small negative effect)!

30 mins before giving a talk I'd find a quiet space, make brief notes, then do it. Much better than scripting (for me)

Absolutely. I've lost count of how many times I've had to say spoken language was never removed from the curriculum. Assessment is not curriculum. We are better than that

Then, a new school, and everything requires deliberation and thought.
