This beautiful essay on time and space and and the sacred and bodies and grief and trauma is just 🌟

And beautifully written, which does not surprise me having worked and ministered with the author and his family

Redeeming Time
An infant son's death provokes a profound meditation on time, remembering, and trauma.

I was reminded, we also don't know who was horrible abused by their mother or turned out and trafficked by their mother. We don't know how badly this maternal hagiography greeting falls because people have learned to keep it off their faces in order to survive the day.

one of the reasons to do cross-disciplinary stuff is because it's quite common for someone to be looking at a problem and then realize that another field has been looking at for for fifty years.

Fun fact #1: a chapter of *We Are All Chile* is about Inés Suárez and Isabel Allende’s delightful 2006 novel about her #academic #writing #book
Video: Isabel Allende Understands How Fear Changes a Society
The beloved author left Chile at a time of great turmoil and has longed for the nation of her youth ever since.

I got new sneakers this week and blew my mind to learn I’ve generally been wearing a half size too small because my ankles are slender vis-a-vis the length of my foot. Even the one that I broke is still slender, and I have to use a fancy lacing technique. I find this unaccountably hilarious 🤣

After chatting with a friend about how our Lents felt… less?.. than previous years, I continue to be surprised by how God has shown up in the Triduum services ⚓️

Thankful for those seeing the humanity of all.

But also: the disconnect between this passing on the same ballot money for a new jail failed is still 🤯

Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally abducted by the Trump Admin and, by their own admission, wrongly deported to El Salvador. He shouldn’t have to spend another second away from his family.

I'm flying to El Salvador tomorrow morning to check on his condition and discuss his return.

In the spirit of this post I wonder, what are the passions, lamentations, etc that folks listen to during Holy Week? My top few are Pärt’s Passio, Golijov’s Pasión según San Marcos, all the Bach, relevant Tallis pieces, Stainer’s Crucifixion, various settings of Ubi caritas…
So, if next week is for Weird Religious Activities only, what are lay* folks doing outside of services? Any fun traditions? ⚓️

*Clergy welcome to reply, I’m just assuming that surviving, eating, sleeping, & maybe sermon revision is all you’re doing outside of services!

Having enjoyed another great sister movie night I’m now dreaming of a romantic relationship where the other person is as all in on flagrant monogamy as I am (which is 100%)

Vignette at the gate in SLC…

LDS Stranger: “isn’t Mardis Gras at Lent, after Easter?”

Me ⚓️, unable to contain myself: “Lent is the 40 days before Easter, and Mardis Gras is the days prior to its start.”

LDS stranger 2: “Isn’t that when you give things up? The kids in my class give up candy”

Proud of this Whitworth student and delighted to see the fruits of our mission in action (honor God, follow Christ, serve humanity)
"Martin Luther King wasn't a hero until he died," the student said, and asked Baumgartner if he was going to continue the pattern of politicians targeting civil rights protestors. Baumgartner said "what happened to those Jewish students just wasn't right."

I am proud of my fellow WA-5 folks for showing up and asking good questions even though (or especially because) Rep Baumgartner didn’t answer many and said things like this
Baumgartner doesn’t support taking Canada because they’ve been a good neighbor and it would be like “taking California, the republicans would never have control again.” He is all for getting Greenland peacefully though, and says we should’ve never given up Panama. Shout of “Fascist!”

I’ve arrived at my final stop of my tristate loved ones tour, and the 3 year old keeps asking, apropos of my ankle, but WHY did you fall in a hole?

Beloved, we all wish we knew. 🤣

I’m visiting friends+fam in the tri-state area and today we went to the Morgan library as an afternoon activity. As I am dorkily checking out all of the Bible and BCP ⚓️ editions someone asks me, out of nowhere, “are you a librarian? Because of the cardigan.” And I am both delighted and dismayed 😍😧📚
