so to the extent that there's a market for commentary about "La trahison des clercs" it is probably corresponding to the unresolved sense of grievance over simply seeing so many things fail

young men need to rediscover quiet confidence and reflective contemplation
If progressives want to win back young men, then they must talk to them and address their needs, instead of constant scolding. All the finger wagging just drives them to Rogan, Peterson, and the Tate brothers. And they DO talk to young men.

Another victim of pig butchering scam

They're scammed and trafficked to Cambodia or Myanmar under the pretense of a job offer, imprisoned in a compound to perform internet romance scams for the mob boss

Sometimes they let you leave if you find a replacement. This is likely what happened here.

excellent example of "accounting system as mental prison" - if you cut the social care budget and put the responsibility onto families, it looks like you have more money to spend on military investment, but the actual amount of labour hours available has probably shrunk
Ganesh telling us all the same answer he always trots out for everything. But if the state isn't making provision for the very young, the sick and the old then productive workers will be taken out of the workforce to do so.And if there isn't decent childcare provision then people won't have kids.etc.

There is a huge infrastructure that works pretty darn well and thus has faded into the background and become invisible and unknown to the public.
one thing I've become very convinced of is the need for the civil service to do waaayyyy more propaganda. like you should know about how NOAA makes the weather app on your phone work. you should know that Uncle Sam runs GPS. you should know how impressive the US census data collection effort is, etc

I like this place, it's chill, but the reason I became addicted to Twitter in the first place is I could watch major breaking news events happen in real time, and trying to use this site to track what's happening in NW Syria now is utterly hopeless.

Is there a bluecheck/brand verification service on Bluesky? @jay.bsky.team

I wanted to check the status of Office 365 outages, but there’s a lot of accounts that may or may not be Microsoft’s. Verification would come handy!
