Thank you to KOIN and AM Extra for having me on to talk about my new book, hard-boiled noir, and why Portland is such a perfect setting for a genre like that. After all the years working behind the camera was certainly a little weird being in front of it.

No sporting league in the world can go full sicko like MLS when it's at peak sicko mode. I love this league.

ACC wins this year: UConn 2, Florida State 1. ACC wins the last two years: UConn 3, Florida State 2. Imagine how badly UConn would have beaten Alabama this year.

Did UConn break Hugh Freeze three years ago? Never been the same since losing at the Rent. I'm not saying Lane Kiffin was thinking this when the UConn-Ole Miss series was canceled, but I'm also not not saying that.

Would Mick Cronin and Brian Kelly being angry short tempered coaches at Cincinnati together, and ending up as angry short tempered coaches at UCLA together be the funniest plot line for a 1970's style "fish out of water" buddy sitcoms?

Portland is so peaceful Republicans had to go all the way to South America to find photos from years ago for their bad memes.
The Oregon Republican Party tried to help Donald Trump make the case for military intervention in Portland with an image of a fiery protest — but since Portland is calm, they had to fabricate one by merging old photos of police in Ecuador and protesters in Brazil www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

It's a White Out at Penn State who wear dark blue. How is Oregon not wearing electric neon yellow? Plain whites are so dull. I blame the B1G Ten for this.

Regular reminder how dumb UCLA's logo is that the c, l, and a are lowercase. You're an institution of higher education. Learn what a proper noun is!

For UConn, is Oklahoma its weirdest post-season "rival"?:
Fiesta Bowl
WBB National Title Game
Baseball Regional Game 7
You never think UConn-OU playing in any sport, yet they've met in a bunch of very high profile games. (plus some weird MBB and WBB home-and-homes back in the day)

My annual plea when talking about bubble teams, stop saying "they control their own destiny". Destiny is a preordained future, meaning it is literally uncontrollable. #WordNerd

in 2016, Charlie Baker and the NCAA took pro-trans stances. In 2025, they instantly gave in to transphobia to stay on the good side of Trump and Congress.

In doing so, they've helped give cover to all the other anti-trans garbage these bigots will try to pull.

The spineless cowardice of the NCAA's anti-trans swerve
A decade ago, the NCAA stood up on trans issues. Now that trans people are under attack, they've given in to bigots.

UConn's last two bowl wins were over a flagship university from Carolina in a stadium built pre-great depression in a city starting with B where they dominated most of the game not allowing any offensive points until the fourth quarter. All I'm saying is UConn's going to the Fiesta Bowl next season

The way UConn keeps beating the best Gonzaga and SDSU teams over the past 3 years, the only one who's destroyed West Coast sports more is Larry Scott

Rich Rod back at WVU. Schiano back at Rutgers. Edsall came back. There's a Brohm leading UL. When Kelly gets fired by LSU and gets rehired at Cincy does that automatically reboot the return of Big East football like finishing a game of Jumanji? #BringItBack @sickoscommittee.org

I'll be one of 65 authors at this year's event. Stop by OHS to pick up a copy of "A Good Place to Die" as well as books from other amazing local authors of all genres.

The ancient ACC rivalry of Syracuse-Cal has been bumped off the CW in Portland, replaced by Big Sky Banger of PSU-Montana. It's like a @sickoscommittee.bsky.social fever dream all happening at once.

I've been selected to take part in this year's gathering of local Oregon authors for the "Holiday Cheer" event at the Oregon Historical Society. Come meet dozens of local authors on December 3rd from Noon-4PM and buy the newest collection of books published in 2023, including The Shabu Ghost.
