November 11th, 1940:
An Armistice Day storm raged across the Great Lakes Region and the Upper Midwest. A blizzard left 49 dead in Minnesota, and gales on Lake Michigan caused shipwrecks, resulting in another 59 deaths. Up to 17" of snow fell in Iowa.

In addition to the snow, it was a cold day in #Columbus. 🥶 #OHwx

We just finished off the gallon of ice cream from our kid's bday party a few weeks back.

Wife: "Well, now we have a new puke bucket!"

Still needs some work, but I'm mostly there getting Google Sheets to import the WPC list of forecast near/new records and assigning the lat/lon to the station codes to export as a CSV.

I'll confess that I've used ChatGPT to work through the vibe coding.

Hey @akrherz.bsky.social, any previous instances of waterspouts mentioned in the same product as snow? I swear I've seen it, but I could be wrong.
WOW. This might be a first – a formal special marine warning for SNOWSPOUTS, or winter waterspouts.

These are the same as warm-season waterspouts, but they're forming beneath snow squalls.

It's because of the EXTREME contrast between the warm lake waters and frigid air above!

Most of the snowfall reports in the #Columbus area were 1–2". I had 2", but only on the grass and elevated surfaces. Streets were just wet. #OHwx

"I know a lot about shipwrecks, but I've never heard of the Edmund Fitzgerald."

Should I divorce my wife for such an asinine statement? 😆😆😆

2" for our first snow of the season. At least in our neighborhood on the southwest side of the metro, streets are just wet. #Columbus #OHwx

@andrewwsyx6.bsky.social Measured 2" on the west side of Grove City. Streets are just wet where I can see.

Periodic reminder: A “ground stop” for XYZ airport means traffic destined to fly to XYZ is being held on the ground at their points of origin, not that anything has “stopped” at XYZ.

So, a “ground stop for CLT” means planes at *other airports* are stopped from leaving for CLT.

This is the second time in two days I've seen/heard this word... a word that I don't recall being aware of prior to yesterday.

Baader–Meinhof situation, I wonder?
Word of the Day is ‘catchfart’ (17th century): an obsequious individual who sucks up to the boss and always follows the political wind.

When you rely on automation and people who don't know about the thing they're writing about, you get stuff like this.

Literally every single day has, climatologically, some amount of rain. Will this forecast article say "this day is usually a bit wet" 365 days a year? That's wrong and useless.
November 7, 2025 at 1:15 PM
I've seen a couple of things this morning that described Mamdani's win over Cuomo "narrow." I don't know if I'd characterize 50.4% to 41.6% — a margin of 8.8 percentage points — as "narrow."

To be clear, this isn't a commentary on the outcome itself, just how some portray it.

When I was pulling plants out of the garden and pots, I was really enjoying the warmth of the sun. It'll be a little while before we have a day like today again!

🎅Hung the lights and wreath today, since that's a heck of a lot easier to do when the weather is nice and my fingers aren't freezing. Kid didn't have school today, so she helped (gave me hooks... and knew to call 911 if I fell 🙃)
