Next project. Mod the NES for RGB/SCART video out! This mod (NESRGB) uses the original PPU from the Nintendo board so retains authenticity.

Ok, this was fun ;) Follow-up to a previous post where I was prototyping some LEDs for installation in a NES shell. All internally wired, no additional power required. Tapped the video rail so I can detect console state. Shoutout to @cefk.bsky.social for reminding me of Cylons.

Ok retro gamers, make sure you always ‘physically’ check the battery in any used cart you acquire. This Starflight cart still tested fine when saving games, but it was a time bomb. Minor corrosion on board. Saved it before it was too late!

Next console build with a board off eBay. It works! No signal on the RF out but the multiport is fine. I can live with that.

Who is else had a SMS? This Sega Master System controller arrived completely dead; no buttons working. Narrowed the issue down to a shorted ground wire somewhere in the cable. Soldered on a new 9-pin cable and viola, works!

I recently restored an NES board and just received a pair of original controllers. The patent for these controllers expired some years ago, but I wanted trademarked ‘real thing.’ Yeah, I’m that nerdy 😉

My New Year’s Day project. Board to convert the Sega 8-pin RGB signal to VGA. I’ve seen lots of commercial 8-pin RGB to SCART adapters but going to VGA is more direct for A/V equipment in the US and I already have an upscaler that can take VGA.

I needed a bigger boat. Building out the retro rig; Intellivision, Master System, Genesis, NES and C64 Ultimate. All original boards save for the C64 Ultimate which is a ‘new’ product. I’m refurbishing the, once broken, NES. #retrogaming.
