Don’t look now, but @newsguild.org just won after a three year strike in Pittsburgh.
BREAKING: We won!

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Sometimes I think people don’t realize how nuts some of our neighbors become when they’re behind a wheel.
“Are you going to go or not” lady yells 20x after I put her a timeout for driving in the 11th Ave bike lane.

All my years of half heartedly going to the gym, I never saw a guy who actually threw the free weights down on the ground after a set. Today I did, and he’s definitely glancing around to see if the rest of us notice each time.

Thanks to the @jamellebouie.net karaoke thread, I woke up in the mood to listen to Can’t Buy a Thrill. We used to know how to let the moog breathe in this country. Somehow, we’ve forgotten all about that.

Instead of weaponizing efficiency to bludgeon government, let's cultivate more responsive, effective government. My new white paper @responsivegov.bsky.social argues for governance rooted in "the robust & systematic centering of the voices of the denizens who most rely on public social programs."
NEW: The latest white paper from Responsive Gov Fellow Jamila Michener makes the case for government agencies to more meaningfully engage with the people they serve – so they can build more efficient and effective programs.

I was never a big fan of the silver line being built above ground, but I gotta say it rocks when you get to whip past sluggish traffic on the toll road, a total parking lot on the beltway, and bumper-to-bumper herds on I-66, during rush hour, all at 60+ mph.

Sad that we’re losing Capital Fringe Festival. I had a blast watching the genuinely weird, creative shows, working volunteer shifts, and getting my tape cassette copy of In Utero from the swap shop when I was in high school. Glad they are continuing to support DC artists in other ways.
here's to the Capital Fringe Festival, which just closed after two decades of music, theater and dance in DC

Your town or county has an election office. These survey results reflect how they may be feeling about their jobs, and it’s cause for concern. Find ways to support—be a poll worker, contribute to positive conversations, anything.
Polls show that Americans now have more confidence in elections.

But election administrators are still despondent. @jessicahuseman.bsky.social got a preview of a new survey with startling findings for @votebeat.org .
