finally got around to making my collage for wine-dark eyes! this one's for those who like fish and mist and calm horror and missed connections.
finally read this and everyone else should too!! i'm obsessed with the aching character moments interspersed through this: it's a story that needs you to care about these characters and oh my god it makes you care
“Full Fathom Five” might be my favorite thing i’ve written to date, the hook i’ve hung my heart on, the story a writer i look up to immensely told me was his favorite at Clarion—

and you can read it in Kaleidotrope: kaleidotrope.net/winter-2026/...

just read this and im going insane. multiple moments in here that made me react out loud. this story capitalizes on its premise in every way possible (especially the ones that explore the traumas and complexes and existential fears of it all, inescapable emotion)
Wanna read an excellent story?

@sarahpauling.bsky.social's new story is out in Clarkesworld: it's about universal cloud memory in every brain, memory cultists, and an assassin who can go underneath it all.
I was lucky enough to beta-read it and haven't stopped thinking about it.

i'm always a sucker for a story about dopplegangers/clones/shadow selves/the Self as something not singular (hashtag my dissociative disorder), and i'm especially a sucker for a story using second person to explore that. this story is such a perfect little dystopia. it's great

ICYMI, "And If You Must Be Wicked, You Must" is a short story by @keychild.bsky.social about being forced to outsource your anger. Read this one for its refusal of the patriarchy and its embracing of all the right kinds of wicked.

One of the funnest little thingies no one tells you about having long term writing workshop friends is that years later, you still know each others’ stories by descriptors instead of titles & cheer each other on about them

“the dolphin story”
“the lobster story”
“the weird quantum glory hole story”

finally worked on it again and my girlfriends response to the draft is “IM SCREAMING” so im feeling pretty good
i kinda wanna start revising this story but i'm kinda scared to once again deal with the world's most caustic protagonist
writing maybe the messiest short story i've ever written

its really funny to me how i never write happy things. today i had a good conversation w friends where we resolved a conflict and talked about how much we love each other, then watched two of my girlfriends get closer to each other. now it's time to sit down and just write something so so sad

im stealing the trend. 1 like = 1 line from a published piece or WIP. i might lean towards WIP even though i should be promoting my published pieces bc there's nothing i love more than to be like haha,,, yes,,, there's a piece out there but not yet...

i've been watching the coyote on Alcatraz's progress with great interest. a week-ish ago, a coyote SWAM to Alcatraz for the first time and looked fuckin rough after the dangerous swim. but the coyote is doing fine now, gorging itself on unprepared birds & rats who are dealing with a sort of Godzilla

I wrote a thing about short stories, why they get rejected, and what you can apply to your own work.

i'm at my best with a melancholy flash piece about girls in a strange situation feeling weird quiet sad emotions. light on plot, heavy on pretty prose and emotions and introspection. i also work a lot with stories about obsessive love, the second person, and stories shaped like spirals :3
Artists, I think we're all too comfortable sharing our imposter syndrome.

I would love to see you step out of your comfort zone and confidently state what you think you're actually really good at.

No self deprecation, just what you think you're the strongest at

Is anyone brave eniough? 👀

wrote a story on voice chat in my writing group server, which was fun and rewarding, but being in that call was just listening to me being dead silent for 30 minutes and then going "oh my god. i'm doing it. i'm writing. oh my god" and then falling silent again

No matter how much hate you have in your heart for the United States and the imperialist regime that has ruled here for so long, the capitalism that demands empire, it is not too much. It is not enough. Even if you are choking on pitch-black bile, they deserve more bile

This is not the first US imperial atrocity for oil —let’s not exceptionalize it— but wow is is it awful. And the violation of Venezuelans domestically in the name of a sovereign borders they actually dgaf about.

As Aimee Cesaire put it— the price of imperialism is the empire’s own civilization.
