finally got around to making my collage for wine-dark eyes! this one's for those who like fish and mist and calm horror and missed connections.
so in my spreadsheet i use to track submissions i color code all my stories, but i'm running into a problem, which is how many of them are different shades of grey. i think i might be a bit addicted to melancholy

finished my reread of the haunting of hill house and it continues to be the best book of all time. the final chapter is this beautiful horrible thing and i wish so badly i could use words like that

i have a horrible addiction to writing tropes i dislike. the coming out story from the pov of the cisgender parents, the war story from the pov of the imperialist soldier. viewpoints that decenter the marginalized. i like trying to manipulate those povs to show who gets excluded from their own story

i heart writing unpublishable stories

i wish, so desperately, i know how to write a character introduction as astounding as shirley jackson’s

Allison Mulder's "If We Live to Be Giants" wrestles with what it's like to live in a household where who you are is not to be spoken of. We suspect some of you might have had a similar experience.
If We Live to Be Giants - Small Wonders
Grandpa measures our heights every day against the hallway markings. Rhiannon and I stand flat as we can, afraid even breathing will subtly lengthen our spines.

finally working again on my story about a haunted house, the isolation of trans women, and the world's least healthy crush. i missed this damn story.

oh this is the kind of story i'm obsessed with. concise and sharp and heartbreaking, unwilling to step off the emotional gas pedal, so thoroughly engrossed in the voice of this dedicated devoted despairing limerence. ouagh

Hi! I have a story out in Small Wonders today! This is a little horny gremlin of a tale and I hope you take a chance on it, if you're into words and whatnot.
What takes you out of time? And what is sweet enough to bring you back into it again? Read Marika Bailey's "Gifted and Talented" today and consider what moves you so that you could move others:
Gifted and Talented - Small Wonders
Being beyond time is a revolution against creation most bodies aren’t built to bear. It’ll kill you, that dark matter time.
