Having a lovely time at the airport. Got an 8 hour wait between flights and it's basically a mini break. Had lunch and a couple of cocktails, did some shopping (got some nice make up and fancy face creams), had reflexology, now I'm having a glass of wine. Off for dinner soon,

As always happens with a fibro flare-up, I know when it's over because I wake up at 2am ready to take on the world. Hopefully this energy will last for the next 30 hours because that's how long I'll be in airports and on planes

Didn't make it to the samba night and totally lost my last week in Brazil to a nasty fibro flare-up. A good reminder that 'a little bit of this won't hurt' literally will, and 'it doesn't matter if I don't do that today' really does

Lesson learned (for the 4689th time)

Still loved it though 🇧🇷❤️

Spent my last week in Brazil in the grip of a fibro flare-up and like every single other time it happens I'm reminded it's never going away no matter how hard I try to make it so

Still, did what I came here to do. Saw my lovely friend, had some great experiences and lived in Brazil for a month

Never cease to be amazed at how well I can speak and understand Spanish when the other option is Portuguese

Although I've perfected, 'sorry, I don't speak Portuguese, only English and Spanish' in Portuguese. So much so a lady in the chemist said, quite accusingly, 'well, you do speak Portuguese?'

Turned it off about two years ago and haven't thought about it since. Make the odd typo, usually because I don't have glasses, but it's just something you think you need because it's become standard, but really don't

Quite a niche PSA but if you're a white northern European travelling in Brazil DO NOT BUY THIS. It's dipyrone aka metamizole which kills white northern Europeans. Loads of publicity about metamizole in the UK & Spain recently but it's a different name here

Delighted to discover Halloween isn't a thing in Brazil, this country gets better and better

Selective licensing is another one of my niche areas, and honestly, when I started writing for a very specific B2B legal sector I never imagined I'd be in the cut and thrust of breaking political news. What a ride.

I went to this place last night and the food was so good I actually got a bit emotional. The server was so touched by my reaction he arranged for the whole team to sign the menu for me - it's getting framed and going on the wall in my new kitchen (if I ever leave here)

My friend said something I can't stop thinking about: Brazilians love foreign visitors (can confirm, everyone I've met has been really friendly) because they want everyone to love the country and have a wonderful time here.

What a great attitude

The aparthotel I'm in requires an app (and your life story) to get in, with all the details about entry, wifi etc in a guide in the app. Luckily I took a screenshot of the door code while i had wifi at the airport, because when I got here the app didn't work so I couldn't access any of it

Just encountered a new level of tech fuckery - access to my apartment requires an app, which requires a photo of my passport, loads of obligatory personal info, then a live photo that needs to be manually approved. Luckily I'm killing time at the airport and not standing outside in the dark

If you don't like me banging on about Brazil look away now because I've been here 12 hours in an airport hotel and I'm already having raptures

Best flight ever (not technically Brazil but Brazilian airline so it counts)
Best live music in a hotel bar ever
Best breakfast ever
Best coffee ever

🇧🇷💯

I'm now eating Brazilian black bean stew in the hotel and there's a man playing guitar and singing Brazilian songs in the restaurant and I don't know what I was expecting from Brazil but I can confirm it is incredibly Brazilian

Got upgraded to business class on my flight to Brazil and I can never go back to the cheap seats. Spent half the flight fully lying down, and people kept bringing me proper meals on plates and drinks in glasses. Everytime I felt a bit peckish or thirsty they were there with the next meal or snack

Unpacking boxes in my first proper home for over 2 years is a real festival of tears, I’m unpacking emotions I’d forgotten about (buried)

So many memories attached to people and pets who aren’t here anymore

Gonna need some Xanax for when I get my stuff that’s been in storage in Spain all this time

Went to a big event on Thursday and it was so well organised and impressive but, like most mass-catered events I go to, I didn’t get food. I’ll never not be insanely pissed off when everyone is eating a lovely dinner and I’m not. Gluten and dairy are not rare intolerances, it should not be hard
