Check out these bad boys: gluten and dairy free chicken croquetas. Massive faff to make but got a friend staying who’s also dietarily challenged so made a big tapas feast. Worth it.

There is a kind of rank hypocrisy from those who claim to be socially conscious yet, treat parents and grandparents with the same kind of derision, contempt, hostility and self-righteousness that would be considered acts of unspeakable prejudice in any other context. The adult child must also change. They must be willing to see their parent as burdened with their own struggles, limitations and traumas that caused them to behave in hurtful or bewildering ways. They must also be open to the alternative explanation—unpopular in our therapy-soaked time—that the causes of their suffering are better explained by social class, genetics, cohort, or bad luck rather than parental failings. Adults who reject loving, devoted, and imperfect parents—mothers and fathers who did the best they could with the knowledge and resources they had at the time—would do well to pause before wrapping their estrangement in the language of justice or mental health. Especially when that standard has emerged in a society that offloaded its responsibilities onto families and then blamed them for cracking under the weight.
